srry i forgot to do the Q/A

Is the 360 a success? Yes
Did it succeed financially? Yes
Commercially? Yes
Did it live up to Microsoft's expectations? Yes
DId it provide the type of games that justified its existence? No it only had 1 for me
Is the 360 the underdog console that overcame all odds to become a hit or is the 360 the console that had all of the potential to be king, only to be overtaken in sales and games by its rivals? No on both accounts

Consider the 360's competition. Consider the 360's legacy. Consider the 360's obstacles. Consider the 360's contributions. Consider all of this and tell me if Microsoft and the gaming world are better off with the 360 on the market.

well when you put it like that, everything made in the 7th gen. was crap. i hope the 8th gen. is better.

Why do you say that?  All three consoles succeeded in some way over its competition (sales, power, games, graphics), all consoles lived up to their legacy in some form or another, all three overcame their obstacles, and all three contributed something major.  But did all of them overcome their shortcomings?  If anything, I'd say the 7th gen is the first gen where every console was awesome in its own way.

lmao

the real question is, was there a need for all these random PS3v360 threads! that's not a real question from me though. did you finish VC yet! that's not a real question either.

all 3 failed me, so in my eyes they all failed regardless of what they did good this is the best gen. for consoles so far, but it's not the best ever. this war only makes it worse. if it weren't for those other threads, i might have a different more positive opionion. but for now, neither console maker has done enough good to outweigh the bad.

You know what?  I'm gonna take that bullet out of your gun.  I've been on VGChartz for like 4 hours today but I'm going to take this excess laziness and channel it into beating Valkyria Chronicles TODAY.  I mean right now, too!

As for the PS3 vs 360 threads, the PS3 has reached a bit of a milestone and shaken up the natural order of things.  It's always been Wii>360>PS3 in sales around here.  Everything else has been opinion but this was the one thing that let many of us sleep at night.  Now, the whole world is changing and many of us are scared.  When we are scared, we lash out.  Hence, the threads.

lmao. laughing so hard i can't think lol. in short, twylight zone

The question doesn't even need asking.

...Hold on a second, that was your plan all along! Sneaky!

absolutely

there are alot of things that make it the best gaming console of the 7th gen imo the controller and gpu are superior to the other two consoles. the ability to have custom soundtracks on all games and being able to install full games to the HDD for better performance put it closest to the PC in terms of customization and freedom. it also has a wide variety of indie games on live that cant be found on the other two consoles along with the majority of multi plats being superior on it. it has unmatched AAA console exclusives in pretty much every major genre unlike some consoles ei. gears TPS, halo FPS forza racer, fable rpg

pretty much every former 3rd party exclusive PS game made its way to the xbox this gen so if you were a fan of sony from 95-05 and dont like the rest of the non multi plat games like god of war, infamous, LBP, mod nation racers and KZ then theres really no need to own a PS

also the fact that it was able to recover sales wise and image wise after the early horrible console failure rate speaks for its own, i severely doubt that going into next gen gamers would have 2nd thoughts on buying the next box in the 1st few yrs of the 8th gen like they did for the 6th and 7th gen xbox is a house hold name now and a force to be reckoned with in the gaming community

I think the 360 was a success on multiple levels, no point at all denying it since it's foolish to deny, but its success is helping everyone, including PS3 players.

Think about the cable companies right now. How many people loathe Comcast? If there were more options, maybe they'd improve their quality and try to improve. If the MS or Sony were alone with Nintendo right now, with the Wii's decline in sales (and even its varied consumer targets in its heyday), then they would probably end up something like Comcast. They'd have no reason to actually compete and would just do things as they wanted to do. Consumers would have to suck it up and that would be that. Prices would probably still be high.

I really like the 360 (and all of the things done right have basically been mentioned already), but I honestly see an important part of the machine's legacy as putting a shot across Sony's bow and making them get their game on so they didn't get lazy. They had the PS2 and it was an amazing success, so they needed something to get them rolling again so they didn't just sit back and figure they'd own everyone. Competition breeds a consumer friendly environment and forces innovation. I don't think anyone can argue that it hasn't been an outright positive thing.

A lot of people here may not care, but the 360 has seriously changed the way many people play their console games with Xbox Live. I would even say the 360 made online gaming relevant and mainstream on consoles. XBL is the gold standard for how an online gaming service is to be run on consoles.

So no, its not just a success commercially and in profitability, but its also a machine that has majorly changed the gaming landscape if you look at the current gaming trends.

Beyond Ms's dreams.

Yay!!!

Am I the only person that picked "no" on all of these threads?
