Forums - Sales Discussion - Sony sees record $6.4 billion net loss, to take tax hit

Hmmm so they were deferring taxes on the assumption that they would eventually make a profit but kept posting losses, and so had to pay 3B on the tax recoup. Well that sucks.

The sooner apple buy the "PlayStation" brand, the better. Sinking ship.

 Apple has no history in gaming, they tried with Pippin and failed. Apple empire will fall, it will happen just like it happened to IBM, Microsoft, Sony companies that ruled the 80s and 90s.

Microsoft
1992: Employees: 15.300 revenue: 2.777 billion USD

2002: Employees: 50.000 revenue: 28.365 billion USD

2011: Employees: 90.000 revenue: 69.943 billion USD

--> When did they collapse?!

IBM
1999: Employees: ??? revenue: 64 billion USD

2002: Employees: 316.000 revenue 81 billion USD

2011: Employees: 426.000 revenue: 107 billion USD

--> When did they collapse?!

The same can be said about Sony, it has more employees then back in the 80's and 90's and its stock price is higher then it was in 1985 and market value is higher then it was in 1994.

I wasn't saying they collapsed, just not the top of the bill anymore, companies like Apple, Google, Samsung, Facebook etc surpassed them.

lol at all these armchair analyst, Sony has 155 billion in total assets and a yearly revenue of 86 billion, they're aren't going anywhere any time soon, they just spend to much because of being to bloated, and with almost no communication between the divisions only adds to the problem. They problem was a lack of focus with too many arms spread all over the place, as soon as Kaz gets a handle on the TV business and get all their core divisions to communicate with each other they'll be back in the black in no time at all.

It was the "old" apple, c'mon, when they produced famous things like the newton or the office-free Power Macintosh. There's the pre-ipod (some say imac) apple and the post-ipod apple. Totally different. They succeeded in gaming in the post-ipod era.

And are you sure IBM and Microsoft falled from grace? Check their market cap.

With Sony, I agree, it's incredible how the mighty have fallen. Everything was Sony. Now I give you 100 bucks if you manage to find someone holding a Sony tablet within 1 hour. Make it 10 hours!

Challenge accepted, however its 10 p.m here so I'll go out at 2 p.m.

could you please stop spreading BS? Apple is the only tech-company around that surpassed MS when it comes to profits and that is due to 3 products (iPhone, iPad, iPod).

  • MS profit is more than double the profit of Google, same for IBM
  • MS profit is 3 billion above Samsung's net income! Of course whole Samsung so including Heavy industries etc. Samsung electronics profit alone is 10 billion USD below MS profits.
  • Facebook has not even made the jump on the stock market yet, even though this might change in May. Again nowhere near MS or IBM. MS actually owns 2% of facebook :D

I am not saying Google or Apple aren't huge companies, but their success did not hurt MS success. I am a biiiig Samsung fanboy myself (3 HDTVs, cell phones etc) but their success is nothing MS should worry about at all. Here it is the exact opposite. Their success hurt Sony big time. Facebook is no threat for anybody!

I try to make it as clear as possible: The money MS made in the past 9 months (!!!) is about the market value of Sony overall. Just swallow it.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

But the profits on blu-ray! THey will be so huge they are worth sacrificing PS3 sales!
