I want bigger, more interactive worlds, better AI, better physics and better looking games. So while I'm happy with my PS3, I still really want a next-gen system.

Nope, based on the rumored specs (Mostly the GPU ones) it seems like the Wii U may be more powerful the the PS4.

I'm going to save you some trouble -- the Wii U GPU is not a 4870. Not even close.

Have to ever seen a 4870? Look at your own numbers -- 150 Watts. Do you know how much heat that is? Remember the old PS3 ... the big, fat one? That one had a GPU that generated only 80 Watts (lol) and that was considered a ton.

The Wii U GPU is likely in the 30-40 Watt range at best given the size of that tiny casing (1/3 the size of an XBox 360 Slim).

Expect 360 level visuals. Some things will be better because of a more modern efficient design, some things may be a tad worse. More RAM. Etc.

Nintendo should've just gone with a 6670 GPU themselves. It's pretty watered down CPU, but it's probably a good deal stronger than what's in the Wii U now, isn't too huge, and would be a decent step above the 360/PS3.

Yep this makes sense, WiiU will be more powerful than a system that will be released a year later.

Actually, the X360 was more powerful than a system released an year later :P

@OP No WiiU won't probably be more powerfull than Ps4 and no a Radeon 400x is not better than a Radeon 700x.

I will agree with you if what the rumors say in that post are true the Nextbox (durango) will leave the other 2 in the dust, and is one of the reasons i didn't include the Nextbox in the chart xD. But judging from the rumors the Ps4 WiiU will be very close(Also Miyamoto didnt say not to expect much).

Ok he said that it wouldn't "necessarily dramatically outperform the systems that are out now" the Orbis specs are several times more powerful than current hardware. So likely a PS2-Xbox style gap so fully portable.

But I can't see Sony not being close to the next Xbox, if Durango is capable of producing games that look an order of magnatude better and has a better Kinect Sony would be basically addmiting defeat as Nintendo are going to kick their arse if 3rd party games look similar of the Wii U and PS4 as Nintendo 1st party will crush Sony 1st party. Especially if Epic are designing UE4 arround the next Xbox specs.

From what Sony showed with the Vita their new hardware stratergy is to use off the shelf components that are a gen ahead of what is on the market slightly modified and I fully expect the Orbis to follow that stratergy and for final hardware having a GPU/s that are early versions of whatever AMD are cooking up now rahter than hardware that is already almost 2 years old now, more than a year out from launch.

The ps3/X360 are already capable enough to have better AI, and more interactive worlds. The problem is developers just prefer to spend their budget un cutscenes.

Seriously? Look at BF3. It looks vastly better on PC, has much bigger maps and has almost 3 times as many people and vehicles online. Not to mention DX11. And with the next advancements of engines like frostbite 2 there will be even more things that consoles aren't capable of. Budget spending had nothing to do with this, it's all about the hardware.

Yeah but Nintendo doesn't make games that would require that much tech, nor would they probably even greenlight a game that cost that much to make.

So Wii U even if it is in the ballpark of a 360 will be enough for Nintendo and probably quite a few Japanese devs too. Look at all the studios closing down as is, there are going to be many companies that can't afford to make high end next-gen projects.

So I think we're headed for an industry split in this regard.

That's because your talking about a PC game ported (dumbed down) to be played on consoles, if look at games specifically developed for consoles, like MAG, you have already a lot of players online.

What I mean is if developers really focused on world interctivity and AI, we would have alredy seen some better enhancemts on actual consoles. Most likely on Ps4/X720 we will see better looking games and better looking cutscenes while AI and interactivity will remain more or less the same.
