Forums - General Discussion - ATTN VGChartz: New Site Coming Soon! Gamewise.co

Wait, so the game database is going to be from scratch again?

I don't mind too much about post count being reset but will this forum be archived? or will we just no longer have access to old posts at all.

nm the above, already answered.

And what's with the Columbian domain?

Gamewise.com is currently owned by an expensive seller, who's sitting on the domain just for the chance to sell it. While we could and may still buy it someday, .co is an effective and up-and-coming domain. We are comitted to the name because we love it, and weren't willing to pick a crappy website name just to have an "m" at the end of our domain.

this feels like it will just fracture and finally break our already dwindling community. i wish you guys luck on this venture but i do not foresee this ending well for anyone.

I was over on gamrreview.com and they are getting quite a bit of views in their articles and reviews. So maybe this all will work. Still do not like that they make you do the disqus thing. Guest posts were nice.

Also it will be weird leaving this site. I would rather just stay here, even if it was only a sales forum.

Also the link that leads you to the old game database up below everyones profile is nice, I like the one we just had. I hope that vgchartz adopts that for their sales database.

Yeah Brett didn't like guest posts since it makes spamming easier for bots.  I asked our developer about getting the VGChartz accounts working on gamrReview comments but he hasn't gotten back to me.

And yeah, we're doin' alright, still need a bit of work but we'll get there.

...

oh...but i do like the name much better than gamrconnect.

If this site turns out like GAF, and can create bigger amounts of users I will be truthful and say I am just staying here. If the nature of this site turns to all sales then it is time for me to jump ship. The community is already way too small to have discussion on many topics and splitting it up seems like it will make it worse in the short term.

I understand your concern, and it will certainly split people's attention short-term. We're hoping that the result however will be long-term growth more suited to the communities in question. Obviously there's no reason people can't discuss sales on Gamewise or games on VGChartz, but we think giving things a little more focus will help communities form that are more supportive of certain styles of discussion. VGChartz, for example, has always struggled to support active in-game communities, which we want to encourage and build up more of. We're hoping something like Gamewise, dedicated to games for the sake of games, can be more effective in areas like that, and achieve long-term growth of great users, while VGChartz will hopefully encourage more reasonable and sophisticated sales discussions than it has in the past.

Ah, similar situation as with the vgcharts.org > vgchartz.com change... doesn't bother me btw I was just wondering why.

I think you have already answered this. But where will I have to be to continue current threads? Darths Prediction thread, Arcturus Sony thread, My Nintendo news thread, Wrestling thread, etc.

They will stay here? Also if the categories are removed here for lets say movies, will those topics, threads, etc be transfered over to gamewise at least?

If this has already been answered then nevermind. Thanks!

All threads you have on gamrConnect will stay here on VGChartz. If/when we chop down the amount of forums, threads in categories like "movies" will go to something along the lines of "general discussion" or "off-topic."

Thanks for the reply! That is good to know.

Not sure what other people think, but I really like the forums format here. It is when you go to other sites that things get congested and over crowded. I guess neogaf is the one to go off of, but even that site it is hard to find what you are looking for. That is just my two cents, this site really has one of the easiest and better organized and better looking forums around. Just not much traffic.

What do you think? I am sure you guys have checked out other sites in your planning stage.

Well certain environments definitely benefit from that kind of forum variety, but I don't think VGChartz is one of them. This is especially true now that VGC is just sales and not news/reviews anymore. For Gamewise which is made for detailed discussion on games it makes more sense to have that kind of variety.

Oh man I can't wait! And now I can finally just create a new account called Yo John117. No more lowercase for me!

Hmm splitting the community doesnt seem wise to me at this point. I feel like one of the forums/websites communities will be affected badly by this. I will try my best to be active on both, but in the long term it just doesnt seem feasible to be an active forum member on two forums. Eventually people are going to choose one, and when the majority chooses one the other will suffer.

I wish you guys all the best though and I will do my part and participate as much as i can :)
