Why they not use te new GTX 680 generation... faster, powerfull, cooler and cheaper than any other GPU on the market.

Like Ben said, Southern Islands is plenty good enough. Nvidia's Kepler would have been nice but maybe Sony doesn't want to partner up with Nvidia anyore. Also, a GTX 680 equivalent GPU would make the console way to expensive. More than likely they are going "mid-range" so if this rumor is true, they would likely go for a 7770 equivalent tops to keep it affordable for consumers.

Sounds like a whole lot of hot air to me. Especially supporting such crazy resolution, there's absolutely no need for that. Throw in a decent GPU and CPU but, for gods sake, amp up the RAM by a lot!
Abandoning the cell could be a prudent choice if this is true, it would give them a lot more ease of use and less 3rd party problems in the development. Pair this with engine outsourcing from the likes of ND and you have yourself a fairly attractive developer environment compared to the PS3.
Nintendo with their silly formats and Sony with their clunky architecture, I hope they both learn soon.

i expect sony to push especially this.

they always want to push things like dvd(ps2) or Bluray and 3d and hdtvs(ps3) the next logical step especially as a company that produces all that stuff and has a big movie production is supporting 4k resoltion probably coupled with 100gb blu ray discs which could(?) support the resolution(not sure if possible).

so will iPad4 beat this spec since apple so keen to take over console gaming... xD

So it begins, PS4 will actually come out
The resolution part makes this rumor seem false though, and that it wont be backwards compatible.

I personally don't see the big deal about BC. Whenever I buy a new console I play newer games on it. If I ever do go back I simply plug in my old one.

Yeah, because Sony would never release a console without b/c...

If i'm not wrong Southern Islands supports higher resolutions up to 4096x2160@50Hz with DisplayPort rev.1.2.

True, but it's convenient or a luxury that's nice to have. One of the reasons I bought a PS3 early was because it was BC; PS2 with PS1; I loved my Wii when I had it because I was able to play GC games on it. Nintendo's portables and so on. That's just me though.

A non BC PS4 would allow me to wait till it drops in price and I'm able to buy it with more than a few games. I'm sure Sony, and even M$ and Ninty would want people to adapt to their new consoles sooner rather than later. Again, that's just me.

A $600 machine that cant play used games and can't play PS3-games. Why even bother
