I was just sharing info but alot of people just try and search for something negative to put against sony. All I was saying is that it costs as much or less to CREATE a PS3 than they sell it for at retail.

That is something a lot of ppl on this site didnt believe was possible for a long time. Thats all I am saying. They have a long way to go before the whole division will profit because even first party titles cost a lot to make.

While this is not a return to profittability (yet) it is great news for Sony. Unlike MS they cannot substain huge losses forever, and as it is they may never realize a net profit for this whole generation. So the sooner they get back into the black, the better it is for them, and by extention all us who enjoy playing their games.

QFT. I'll trust Sony's financial report over a random website any time. In a financial report, Sony is legally obligated to tell the truth without spin, unlike what happens in their PR. As you said, Sony has stated multiple times that they're not breaking even any time soon on each PS3 sold.

I think it's likely that sony are making a profit in europe but a loss in amerca due to the weak dollar. In the uk the PS3 costs $600 for the 40gb. I simply cant see them losing money on it after all the cost savings they've made

Just as a point of interest does anyone know if sony make a profit on the sale of psp hardware and if so how much?

I wonder if Sony can drop the price $100 this year and bring back BC?

It's really strange to hear these revelations, especially with the recent news about braking even in fiscal year 2009. Above all else we have to remember that much of the money that sony gains in Europe they already lost it in Japan, where the PS3's are very cheap. In that sense, everythig almost evens out to 0$ on production costs (assuming that this news is true) but we have to add in shipping, 3,5 billion dollars losses, and the fact that i don't think that Sony has a way to further cut the costs in the PS3. I mean : they already took out most of the pricey stuff like EE, BC etc. , they changed the processor to 65 nm technology type and whatnot. What else can they actually do right now to further bring down the costs? I think that it'll take another year for a different price cut.

and to think that in Europe their sale ps3 for 400 euro, that is 600$.
