I recently bought Pikmin to try out on my Wii console, and walked into my local gamestore to purchase a Wii Gamecube Controller.  Upon asking for one, and stating the reason why I needed it, the attendant said I should get a classic controller (same price) as it does the same job and is a more comfortable controller.  I took him at his word and proceeded to try and play Pikmin with the classic controller, which subsequently was not recognised by the Wii. 

Having done a quick google search, it would appear that the classic controller can play all VC games, but not GC games, whereas the Wii Gamecube controller can play all GC and VC games, making it a better solution for me.  Can anyone confirm for me if this information is correct?  Is it possible I just have a faulty classic controller?

as far as I know, you need the GC controller to play GC games on wii, classic dont work. you also need a GC save card

Yup, classic controller will not work. Once you begin playing a Gamecube game, the currently connected Wii Remote will shut itself off anyway, and becomes useless during the time spent playing.

more comfortable controller? Are people insane.. I adore the Gamecube controller because of how comfortably it fit in my hand... Classic controller won't work, Wii remote shuts down when you start Gamecube games because the Wii imitates a gamecube shutting off the extra functions and speed that the wii uses.

well, as far as I know, you cannot save gamecube games on the wii. you need one of the old gamecube memory cards to do so.

as I said it imitates a Gamecube when playing Gamecube mode. If Gamecube didn't have it while running a GC game the Wii won't because it mimicks a GC.

hopefully one day u can use classic controllers for gc games cause they ain´t sell gc controller anymore

Have nintendo released a new gamecube memory card to go with the new Wii controllers? IN australia there are hardly any second hand gamecube games left, and accessories are virtually non existant
