Forums - Gaming Discussion - Microsoft and Sony need to embrace Tablets for their next-gen consoles

The new iPad sold as much in a Weekend than the 3DS did in 4 Months..

Quite easy to see why support for iOS is growing daily.

As for Sony and Microsoft using a tablet controller. No. Tablets, when used for videogame purposes are totally different than a multipurpose tablet, like the iPad. Let Nintendo go down that route, I want Sony and MS to stick with traditional controllers.

Sony already makes Tablets. They offer the S and the P which are not just Ipad copies and offer pretty unique features. I love the design of the S, which feels so much better in the hand, especially for reading, than any other tablet I've seen on the market.

"These days you need gimmicks to sell stuff."

Funny, I see plenty of people playing 360, PS3 and PC games without gimmicky controllers. Hell, half of the worthwhile Wii games ditch the Wii-mote in favor of the classic controller as well. Personally, I really don't want Sony and Microsoft to fouc their efforts on tablet controllers, although Microsoft has already become a bit of a lost cause since the Kinect launched >_<

Microsoft had: Achievements, Kinect, and XBL

Sony had: Blu-ray/DVD player, eyetoy, and cell processor(I guess)

Each system had gimmicks that extinguished them from other consoles

On topic: It's not a gimmick if everyone does it

You clearly don't know what a gimmick is. BluRay/DVD, cell processor, XBL,  and achievements are not gimmicks. The eyetoy maybe, but it was never really used as a marketing tool. The kinect would  be considered a gimmick because it seemed to be developed to use more as a marketing tooll rather than adding substance to the actual system.

Nah im good. I mean gamers never bought an Ipad for gaming right? Never!

Yay!!!

No... I don't think you know what gimmick means.

Straight from wiki

"gimmick is a unique or quirky special feature that makes something "stand out" from its contemporaries..."

XBL, achievements, eyetoy, DVD/blu-ray playback, and to a point the cell processor made their respective consoles stand out from the pack.

Why does Apple's success mean success for everyone else that follows? What other companies have been so successful after venturing into the tablet business? I doubt people have room in their lives for more than one tablet.

Amen!

I think the future is vr gaming not tablets.

Love is whats most important.

Unfortunately i feel as if this is a strong possibility going into the next generation. I don't think it will be used initially but it will be adapted later on like kinect and move was added to hd consoles this generation. Honestly if either console (PS4 or XBOX???) uses a tablet as its main source of interaction, i will totally jump ship to whatever console that doesn't uses tablets.

-I can't wait till the 2020's when everyone began to realize how stupid tablets are.

I can bet all of those 3 million sales had nothing at all to do with gaming, so no
