I enjoyed 3D Land quite a bit. I really admire how it combined the best of both 2D and 3D Mario games into one great game. To me, 3D Mario games are a great experience, but 2D games are always more fun to play. This game fits right in between providing a great experience and still being a lot of fun. That being said, it isn't the longest game ever unless you go for 100%. I beat the game with 4 stars within two weeks, but still need to get all the gold flagpoles...

The game play is similar to 2D Mario games where you try to reach the end of a level while collecting star coins along the way, only this time you move along in a 3D space, while playing the game in 3D. In my opinion the 3D really does make a difference and looks great. You can especially see the difference when you are in those special 3D rooms because if the 3D is off it looks like the blocks are connected, while they are apart with 3D on. The music is great as well. The game itself is pretty easy until you get to world 8 of the "special" worlds, and even then only the last few levels are hard. Of course, for first time players I'm sure it will get tougher much earlier on. We have to remember that playing every Mario game will make them all seem easy to us. lol

As for how things will play out in the future... I'm sure Nintendo will continue to make 2D and 3D Mario games, but now they will make games like this that are a combination of the two as well. Each of the 3 provide a different experience, but they are all great games. Looking forward to the 2D game for the 3DS this year! Hopefully New Super Mario World.

Great insight, I enjoyed the music as well.

I loved it. After accomplishing everything the game has to offer, I feel that this is the right idea for 3D Mario on a handheld. If they just expand on this game's ideas for its inevitable sequel I think they can craft a true masterpiece.

3D Land style for handhelds, Galaxy style for consoles, and 2D Mario games for both.

Agreed!

It was a very good game. I would have picked the first option until I saw the second. It suited me more so I chose it. I finished it with all levels complete, 3 stars in all of them. The only thing I didn't like was the big Bowser battles. They really didn't make sense for how you had to beat him.

Great game, but idiotic requirements to unlock all levels. You shouldn't have to play through the whole game as both, Mario and Luigi. Neither are the randomly generated purple boxes a good addition. The game just isn't well designed from a completionist's point of view.

Haha i see.

Dude, you are the man! I haven't dedicated my time to getting all the star medals. The Bowser battles were good imo, it was to avoid getting hit by him (obvious ) and the battle ends when you take out a bride (like in original mario bros)

So basically it is not worth buying. Especially for just ten to 12 hours of play. No wonder the 3DS is doing so so in America.

I guess it depends what you are willing to pay for. It's a traditional Mario game so I would buy it either way. If the next Mario bros was 3 hrs long I would still buy it. A must own for 3DS gamers imo.

They just didn't appeal to me. I hated trying to not get hit by him. Sometimes you just had to get hit by him to be able to get passed. In my opinion they were a little poorly designed. The rest of the levels were GREAT though!

and Nintendo/Mario fans generally.
