Forums - PC Discussion - Diablo III release date: May 15

Wow, I didn't know my post would spur a debate like that. Anyways, I'll probably get this on release even though there will be no PVP on release. Blizzard usually doesn't release a broken game and they do a pretty good job / put effort into their patches.

fyi, I'm not saying Mario is a bad franchise, just credit where credit is due, and stop hating. (not aimed at you, but everyone here saying "poo poo it's taking so long".

Well after going a few years of saying it is almost done or about to release you can see why some might have grown a little tired of waiting.  I know it will be good and probably love it.  It won't blow me away but most of their games don't.  I just simply enjoy playing them because they usually try to make sure the game is balanced , etc..  While never perfect they at least try really hard to focus on gameplay unlike some developers.  Most of their games never push graphics too much considering that would knock off a lot of their sales.  They usually release a game that any middle or semi low end computer of the time can at least run on low settings and it still look semi decently / play fine.  I'll stop because I am sure you already know this.  I used to be one hell of a loyal Blizzard follower back in the day.

I think Blizzard games are a league of their own when it comes to longevity of sales. Considering the few releases the games actually have. Its very hard to compare a game like Diablo directly to mario (as mario gets almost annual releases). We dont know how well the older marios would sell if newer versions were never made. Id say diablo would stil be outdoing original mario games given the nature of the pc audience.

And also no bundling what so ever for diablo...and no major changes either. A true classic. Very few franchises have had such success. Mario would be one of them as well.

Diablo 2 had a bundle with the original game, expansion, and guides.  Diablo 1 wasn't bundled due to having no expansion.  Oh wait you are talking about bundled like game with console...

Sorry, I didn't realize we were comparing games that are bundled with a system to a game that has to be bought and often pirated.

Bundled? Mario all star wii was bundled? Think you're mistaken. Snes game was, but many many copies were sold without bundle - may I say, most of them?

Ah, yes Mario was never ever pirated too! I suppose my Znes emulator is officially supported by Nintendo. Send me the bill, Nintendo! I owe you 150.000 dollars.

And of course, there's virtua console sales too. So make that Diablo 19 in my original post!

LOL this is ridiculous. There is nothing worse than arguing facts. Mario all star SNES was bundled for like a couple years dude. Wii couldn't even sell 2.5 m of them you think SNES sold 10!?

Super mario all-stars was bundled from really 1994 and on.

It's been remade 3 times. ie; it's been completely reprogrammed 3 times. It's been released 5 times.

Super mario advance -5m
Mario allstars SNES- 10m
All-stars wii- 2.5m

17.5M

virtual console?

diablo 1 and 2. Made once each, total of 2 times. Programmed twice. Released twice.

17m as of 2009. Still on NPD top PC games in America as of 2010.

Daiblo 17? They are almost even at just 2!

You forgot the other Mario Advances... and of course, the thera's original releases. Guess the 17 million mario 3 were all bundled also.

And yeah, I believe at least more than 5 million ("most of") sales of the Mario All Stars were not bundled. It was a huge hit back then.

Completely reprogrammed 3 times? Yeah, keep telling yourself that. You're insulting Mario sales power, you know it.

BTW, not that I doubt it, but where did you get that 17 million number? And wouldn't you say Diablo 1 was bundled with 2, cause I don't thnk you can buy it separately.

Oh you want to talk about the Mario franchise completely?

How completely bafflingly odd considering you're comparing a series from 25 years ago with one from 15 years ago, and 15 games compared to 2.

I guess Nintendo wins *this* round.

You want a better competitor? World of warcraft sells the equivalent of 10m mario games at 50 dollars a peice, every year, since 2004.

I'm not comparing franchises... I'm saying the original Mario Games sell a lot even to this day. And rereleases sell more than diablo. Anyway, what about that 17 million figure?

And fun fact, did you remember you could not play diablo 2 in 800x600 originally? Thank god for expansions and patches possible on PC or else blizzard would have to do the unthinkable: completely reprogram it!

Wow is much bigger than Diablo, what's your point?

If you're going to continue an argument that someone else started, at least keep in mind what they said.

The witcher 2 could have used a few months more in the oven, even though it was a great game. Blizzard makes games that sell for years and even decades because they focus so much on quality and balance.

A diablo: battle chest is its own SKU. It's not counted as a diablo 2 or diablo 1 sale. It's a diablo battle chest. That is not bundling.

Bundling is getting something you didn't pay for and having it count as a sale.

What is your problem with responding my separate arguments? I even give each of them separate paragraphs! Anyway, the whole point I'm discussing is this (your post, I don't even know their discussion):

"Really the only comparison nintendo has is ocarina, and that's gone through three releases, and two developments, and one complete refresh, and half the sales."

And that's not true. Fact. Mario (others too) do it too.

Comparison because it's a game during the same year as diablo 2.

One game vs one game.

I didn't realize you were talking franchises until later on in the argument when you went on to say supermario alstars counts for all the mario games individually. To be honest, you didn't even mention the franchise until your fourth post, the previous ones talking about a specific game. Not my fault. Looked like you were just pushing back the goal posts.
