it's just funny how most who are against topless pics wouldn't have a problem with this pic. erotic isn't the most important part of that pic so it's not a bad pic for them. the message of the pic is a guy killing some people in a few minutes how should this be worse than a pic made to attract some people.

It's not so much the message of the picture I'd wager, it's more about what it says about the person behind them. Having something like Rambo as your avatar is fine, it says you probably think the Rambo movies are cool and maybe that you like action movies in general. That's the sort of information most people will not object to knowing. They may not care about it, but it's not too much or anything of that sort.

When you have an avatar you find sexy though, you're telling the rest of us about your fantasies and very intimate pleasures. And seeing as avatars can't be blocked, you're basically forcing people to know these very intimate details about you, which can be crossing a line for some.

Everyone will of course have different sensitivity to this, but I think that's one reason why people can be uncomfortable with these avatars.

you could spin that rational onto just about any avatar , an avatar is just that a representation , I myself use them as identifiers and don't read to much into them to me they are just pictures and as such subject to change at the whim of the owner , as long has as they don't promote subjects like racism etc that are  universally taboo I'm cool.

As an aside my concern about this thread and it is definitely not aimed at anyone in particular , is some posts are verging on borderline homophobic .

it's a video game forum not a soft porn site, and since video games very much appeal to kids and young teens of course they are inappropriate

Right, because thirteen year old boys have no interest in attractive women.

It's not really a question of age appropriateness, it's a question of, as you said, preventing this from becoming a softcore porn site.

There's a difference between preventing it from becoming a softcore porn site and banning so much potential video game and anime artwork from being used in signatures and avatars by wording your rule poorly.

No cleavage is a joke of a rule. full stop.

Of course you can, sex just happens to be a subject that many people prefer to keep a private thing. My point was simply that avatars mean different things to different people, and while you may consider such an avatar perfectly acceptable, it will be too much for someone else. For this particular subject, the people who are unhappy about it seems to be a sizable portion, which is why changes are being made.

You should have to change your avatar as well. A guy sitting at the computer and watching porn really isn't appropriate for a staff member.

If people told me my avatar was offending them, and I knew they were serious, I'd certainly take it into account.
