I wouldn't trust any alien that said it needed humanity's help to survive if it had the capability of making the trip in the first place. I wouldn't treat them bad, I would definitely try to find a way to help them that helps us, but I would never be able to get past the sneaking suspicion that something isn't right with the whole situation.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

We'd give each other foreign diseases are bodies can't handle and we'd both die

Yet the aliens in War of the Worlds died from the common cold. E.T was  about has viscious as a pillow pet. Then you got Starman who was just Jeff Bridges naked.

Some aliens will have no choice but to fall under our Rule. When I say our I mean Americas.

That is of course if they are the most powerful force on the planet at the time the aliens are here ;)

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

I wouldn't be all joyful and welcoming at first. They have to earn our trust. Until that, they are dangerous foreign species that shouldn't be taken lightly. Then again, the way the aliens were treated in district 9 is what I imagine would happen if they happen to need our help. It's sad but it's how the government/humanity is. You'll have those who will be trying to use them to make an advancement in technology, those who will feel compassionate, those who will downright abuse them to get whatever they want, and the naive and ignorant worshipping them. And those who don't give two fucks, as long as the aliens don't do any harm or anything to them.

Well if you watched District 9 you would have understood what I meant

If you haven’t you should definitely see it as it is a great movie

You're right, I didn't watch it :p Wasn't my type of movie

I would help them out in any way possible. Possible galactic adventure and maybe hot alien sex (if it is female) It's a in win.

They dont have to earn anything unless they arrive with their technology completly busted. District 9 is unrealistic. You need to be way smarter to survive on a Spaceship than on your home planet. If they come here for ressources (which is pointless because they can get everything easier in Space except Diamonds) they can just take whatever they want. They dont need the humans and certainly not their trust. Its atleast a technological clash like Stone Age vs todays US army. We have to earn their trust and hope for the best.

Bacteria, Viruses are highly specialized. We cant even get 99% of all animal deseases because they simply dont work on us. It would be some kind of miracle if Aliens who evolved lightyears away under presumably different gravity sunlight and environment would be compatible to our biology so that viruses could enter their cells. If that were to happen I would instantly believe in god.
