Forums - Sony Discussion - Play Station 3 outsells NES

Well considering it just did 200,000 last week at the end of february/start of march, I think it should do pretty well this year. Easily 80 million or more lifetime.

Plus people forget its still $249...lots of room to drop. It should have another decent sales spike when it drops to $199.

Any prediction under 85 million is unreasonable imo given the current momentum...as well as the expected rate of decline that will happen in the coming years.

Anything above 95 million also seems unreasonable at this point.

I think it will reach 389,000,000,000 sales by tomorrow caus i have a ton of money :D

Wait... does this mean im not human?

That's Hardly an achievement considering how much the gaming industry's grown since the nes, Sony fanboys are getting desperate!!

the real question is did it beat wii fit?

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

I figure this is how it'll go:

Wii is going to stop selling soon after the WiiU comes out, stalling just over 100 million (maybe 102-103 lifetime)
Xbox 360 will continue strong for another two years, easily passing 80-85 million, may end up with 90 million if they support it a year or two into Durango's life.
PS3 will continue to sell as it has, strong steadily, and will be about the same as the Xbox 360 when the next generation comes around (both will be around 85 million) but will sell more than the 360 lifetime due to it being supported for 3-4 years longer, resulting in 90-100 million total.

final expectations once it's all said and done:

Wii - 102 million
PS3 - 95 million
Xbox 360 - 91 million

Keep in mind, PS3 will only continue to sell that high above the 360 becuase Sony claims it'll be supporting the system until 2016, I imagine 360 will stop getting actual support in 2014. When the next gen comes (presumably 2013), both Ps3 and 360 will be at about 85 million.

that's very, VERY impressive.

I don't see how it's a victory for Sony when they lost what? $50-100 on average per console over 60 million consoles? Sure it's a landmark but I could hardly call it a victory. Sony can't exactly afford that *kind* of success.

Yes. The whole strategy of PS3 was flawed. But at least they could saved de brand.

Given that the NES pretty much brought console gaming back from a crash and the population was ~70% what is it now, I hardly consider this an accomplishment.

Pixel Art can be fun.

I wouldn't say this is an accomplishment. It does show, however, that the PS3 is growing in UserBase which is always a good thing. I expect it to get 85 Million to 90 Million. No way Seece's 100 Million. Still a good number.

Not an incredible achievement when you consider how much money PS3 has lost.

Every Playstation console has achieved this as well.
