Forums - Sales Discussion - Actual current gap between 360 and PS3..2.5 or 3.1?

I've been keeping a track of the sales gap between the HD twins for a long time and wan't to make sure the current updates are right. Just after the holiday spike of console sales, it seems things are now pretty much undertracked for PS3. Anyone with real updates on the sales after good analysis, please post them.

Since the front page says 3.1, I'd say go with that. VGchartz is usualy pretty close to the actual numbers so even if the PS3 was "under tracked" I doubt it's by much.

We have no idea until the next lot of shipments come in ... the shipment gap was 3.8 end of last year. Sony are projecting 2m this Q, with MS seemingly shipping less as they overshipped last Q.

If they ship something like 500k then sure, gap should be 2.3 - 2.7, if they ship 1.1 or something though the gap is a lot closer to 3m

the sold gap is predicted by VGC as on front page

the shipment gap is 3.8m as of Dec 2011

The explaination for the current gap is generally accepted as being caused by MS overshipping last quarter, which if so, should be reflected in both shipping numbers and sell through figures for the current quarter.

If there's any undertracking taking place for the PS3, it would be due to limited/late information as it comes in from minor regions outside of the main NA, EU, and Japan.

No console was undertracked in holidays this time... all of them were overtracked.

Which I feel is the ideal probability here. As of now the shipment numbers through Q1  need to be updated to finalize the actual gap.
