Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why do third parties use Wii success to fund PS3/360 bombs?

Developers will catch on soon enough that the real money is in the Wii and will start producing more Wii games and ignoring the PS3 and 360.

Nintendo still doomed?

Man so much love in this forum lol.

@All the guys being sarcastic with the PC comments, you do realize that you have to Upgrade a PC right? You can't count on a PC having solidified specs and as such I can see why not so many companys are pushing for the next Crysis >_> How many of you guys enjoy buying a sequal to a game that looks worse >_>? It's almost unheard of.

@Carlos, your comment is full of BS, we've been following the Graphics sell policy since the creation of video games, graphics will always sell, they aren't a novelty, there a part of technology. Motion controls aren't >_> that's not to say they won't sell because of it, hell it's a fresh idea, I'm sure it'll help sell a ton, but don't consider that the way of the future >_>, just a part of it.

And why the hell is everyone flaming Diometes? He posted a legitimate opinion. Shame on you guys >< I agree that most things in the economical world are fueled by technology. It is a part of it wether you like it or not ><

With the PC comments, that's the entire point everyone is making. It's not economically sound to keep pushing graphics on the PC.

Lair is extremely beautiful, so by your logic, it should have outselled Halo 3, which only runs in 640p, right?

Third bold comment, yes, tech is always progressing but not always what you expect. Nintendo didn't progress with the Wiimote?

Graphics don't sell at all. Otherwise Lair would be a  multi million seller.

I believe the reason they dont port the big third party franchises to wii is becuase ...yes, the concole cant handle it, dont get me wrong the wii is a great concole, but there more to a game then controls and graphics, theres AI, framerate, animation (aka motion capture), collision detection, size of environments, amount of action on screen at once, and many more i dont even know about... all of these factors will affect the playability of a game on a platform and the wii is simply not powerful enough to support it. devs are not dumb you know, they realize whos winning the console war too, so your telling me they decided to make an entirely new crappy game of soul calibur instead of release the probrably awesome Soulcalibur 4 to wii if they could? i doubt it. id say they would if it were possible to diliver the same quality game...and about the "Bombs" on ps3/xbox360... you know 800k is pretty good sale actually and would be considered a success by most games,, look at Uncharted: drakes Fortune for ps3.. its sold roughly 750k in a few weeks, its a great game with excellent controls, AI, collision detection, animation, graphics, and its fricken hilarious, and a great shooter, and while americans have pretty much ignored it entirely becuase it doesnt have a badass lead or not got a guys head being shot off on the cover or asomething, it sold decent in europe and now the dev had confirmed a sequal is in the works, even though sales have been well below the sopposed "break even" mark of 1 million

Yes, they clearly pushed Wii's limit with games like Cruisin and Ninjabread Man and became bored immediately.

your right graphics isnt the only part of the puzzle. Its the complete package; controls; graphics; presentation; price. This is why PC games make more dough then console games. Hopefully peoples views change to balanced packages then unbalanced, which it would seem to be whats happening as Lair bombed.

 less crap more fun.

Okay lets just lock this. This was a bad idea in the first place. Every single person (whether they agree that 3rd parties will make big Wii games or not) disagreed with the OP, and it's just arguing now.

I think what we are experiencing is either (a) a paradigm shift or (b) the prelude to the next crash.

I don't think it is (b) ... so we are seeing that a lot of gamers shift.

The Wii has a broad and varied user base. And much of it is very different than the typical game-buyer from previous generations. They buy more games at general retailers and don't trade them in (In other words, they don't shop at Gamestop or its equivalent as much).

No one thought that the Wii would be so successful --- not even Nintendo and certainly not the third party developers. So being caught without a plan, they try to quickly release and sell what works. Hence, there are a lot of party games and PS2 ports because they can be done "quick and dirty" (or "quick and cheap").

The next couple of years should see improved third-party support ... much like what the DS has experienced. However, it probably will not reach that level as there are certain types of games and gamers which are going to be more approrpriate and more at home on the PS3 and/or Xbox 360.

Probably Take-Two is the company most using Wii money for other projects. But then again, when they get GTA-IV out, it will sell. And Take 2 has always publshed kiddie games of one sort or another, so this is not really new for them.
