Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Sega says: thank you to all the wii owners that bought M&S at the Olympics

This makes me think a couple of things...

1) I certainly wouldn't put it past Sega to give the Wii an online version with extra multiplayer events about the same time or just after this is released but they wouldn't announce it yet as M&S is still selling well. makes sense - cash in on Xmas and Olympic hype as Sega are also in a position where they've tested the waters with the Wii and must be pleased with the result.

2) If this game does bomb (which I suspect it will) then it's a massive coup for Nintendo as within a year that's Capcom and Sega they've proved to that they have a certain type of game that belongs on the Wii and that the Wii will make them money if you put the work in.

Those people that think they're perfect give a bad reputation to us who are...

"With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that." - Phil Harrison, Sony

I have a couple of things to say about this. Firstly, why are third parties not treating the Wii like the undisputed hardware leader that it is? They should be falling over themselves to get as much (good/heavy hitting) software on this system as possible. It's as if they just plain don't like the Wii and are hoping if they ignore it that it will fade away.

Secondly, from a consumer's perspective this isn't a huge blow. Chances are this won't be a great game so Wii owners shouldn't be missing out on anything.

They aren't treating Wii as the market leader because they aren't. The PS3/360 combined have more marketshare then Wii. Since most developers won't make exclusives for one of those games, but publish it on both consoles means at this moment PS360 is the leading "platform".

Be sure that behind the scenes most devs are working really hard to get this heavy hitting software on Wii. The problem with these really good games is they take at least 2 years to develop and devs only found out last year that the Wii would be the succes as it is.

its also because most of these big games were in developement before they found out that wii would be a success

i'm pissed about this cuz i'm a runner and while most people thought athens 2004 sucked we loved that in college. we also played international track superstar or whatever it was called for dreamcast a lot freshman year in college. the only thing i was interested in athens was the track and field events but i was very much looking foward to a new olympics game with motion controls with the actual countries and everything, you know a real olympic game and not just a mario and sonic version of the olympics. and while mario and sonic as a whole is better than athens in that a lot of the events are fun and its got more depth to it, it didn't have that many track events and so to me isn't nearly as fun cuz thats all i want, and it had no online. athens track events were awesome if you like track. m&s is good overall but doesn't have that many track events, no real olympic game on wii means i'll have to stick to playing athens when i was looking foward to sweet motion controls in track.

that said, the olympic game will not sell well and i understand them not wanting to make a second olympic game on the wii when they already have the really popular m&s. but i was very much looking foward to an online wii version of beijing. would have been an automatic buy for me.
