Forums - Gaming Discussion - 'thatgamecompany' Exploring Going Multiplatform Post Journey

PlayStation faithful, I have some disappointing news. It appears as though the unfortunate trend of fading second party PlayStation exclusivity will continue with PSN developer thatgamecompany.

In an interview with PushSquare, the beloved development studio responsible for flOw, Flower and the upcoming Journey, confirmed that this will be their last project exclusive to Sony’s platform. Co-founder Jenova Chen explained the reasoning behind this decision, which mainly stems from the desire to reach a “bigger audience.”

Thatgamecompany had a three game contract with Sony, so the past three games had to be Sony exclusive. Right now we are very much exploring ways to bring our games to a bigger audience, beyond just PlayStation.

We are still in the process of negotiating, but I hope that we can announce it [soon]. But right now it’s still in the process.

While the developer may be going multiplatform, that doesn’t mean that their prior titles will be available on other devices, as TGC’s community manager assured gamers that those titles are owned by Sony.

flOw, Flower, and Journey are all owned by Sony. We won’t be porting them over to iOS, Steam, other consoles, etc. If Sony wants to do any of that, they can.

As for what we’ll work on next, we aren’t going to announce what will happen until we announce it, so you’ll just have to play the waiting game. We are very excited about this new game, just like with flOw, Flower, and Journey.

Look for Journey on the PlayStation Store when it launches on March 13th.

I am not trying to say anything to make anyone mad, but I hope that they bring some games to the Wii U. Journey looks like it will be great.

although i do feel this is all just being said by the devs in hope SONY will buy the studio.
