I will say though that the shorter time is in some ways to FF13-2s benefit. FF13 it was utterly ridiculous how you could 5 star the last boss then need to spend another XX hours odd grinding to hit max level and be able to beat some of the tougher foes. In 13-2 I found it much better balanced where upon completing the game you can manage against the easier sidequests and beating the easier sidequests lets you level up enough to handle the tougher ones. That was definitely an improvement.
On the down side almost nothing in 13-2 requires any strategy at all. The only one that comes to mind being the immortal where you really need to think of a good strategy. Then there were 2 battles that basically required utterly ridiculous levels of turtling -_- One was a joke where just switching between Med/Sen, then Sab/Sen was basically the only way to beat it and was beyond tedious. Otherwise everything else can be beaten with just Com/Rav/Rav then Com/Rav/Med (or if you want to be cautious Com/Med/Med). I barely even touched the Sab/Syn roles for the entire game. |
That's how like, every hard optional boss in FF is though. You can obliterate the final bosses in FF7, and 9. But still be no match for the weapons, or Ozma. Or Trema in X-2. Or Yiazmat in FF12 etc.
A lot of fights are a lot shorter if use those roles. Particularly with a Synergist Monster.
I haven't beaten everything though.

Right but every FF game being like that isn't a good thing. It's one of the areas FF13-2 totally nailed it. Not having to properly grind is very nice indeed. I mean the hint is in the name really 'grinding' not exactly fun. FF13-2 hits a nice balance where you beat the last boss, then can just about handle the easier side quests then work your way up. Without the need for excessive grinding. I'm sure some FF fans will be annoyed that they don't have to spend 20hours doing mindless grinding to enjoy end game content but personally I think it's great.
I don't think the fights needed to be shorter. I 5 starred the last boss first try and think I 5 starred every other story related boss too (at the very least I got all the achievements for 5 starring bosses in different parts of the game without even trying or replaying). With cloudburst in your team you especially don't need a synergist as his feral ability is good enough. I mean I guess you could throw one in but if you are getting 5 stars anyway what difference does it make? Like I said the game is extremely easy and requires little strategy. It's very odd that they included an easy option but not a hard one.

Oh, sorry. I agree with most of what you said.
I haven't gotten cloudburst yet. The game is too easy generally. But, I tend to use monsters that look funny and then infuse them, Instead of using the most practical one. Which probably makes it a bit more difficult.

Haha you don't have to apologise, it's alright. I think it is a really good step they made with 13-2. Actually being able to go straight from the end-game story to enjoying end game content is in my opinion far superior than getting to end game and not being able to enjoy it for a long time. It does make the game shorter but I just think it's better to have 40-50hours that features a tiny amount of grinding, as opposed to 70-80 hours but you need to grind a for 20 of those hours. Quite a few of the big rpgs this gen have moved more towards making end game content more immediate which is very nice.
I actually barely infused my monsters at all lol. Except for one, where I used a pulsework knight to give my green chocobo +33% (or is pulsework 25%?) HP and the Esuna ability from a flanitor. I thought I would wait to infuse my guys until I had all the best abilities to give them but completed the game before I had them haha. So my cloudburst was just a bog standard one which I think most people would view as reasonably weak. I think even if you don't take too strong monsters that through good infusion they can be easily strong enough.
It is just a shame that there weren't more challenging fights. There's really only one in the game I think was a nice challenge. Whereas for example Lost Odyssey hit a very good balance where end game content was quite immediate but there were plenty of challenging fights.
Some people on the forums seem to think I totally hate 13-2, but it's not the case. I just can't stand the story, characters, music and dialogue lol. The core game they have is good, they just need to get in new writers and a new composer. Then throw in a hard mode as well as the easy mode they have.
