Ron Paul is nothing more than a conspiracy theorist politician who makes up such ridiculous claims. Shock journalists are well known for making up conspiracy theories for laughs.
I can not see the evidence/proof that the US government is a totalitarian regime: Fascist or Communist that oppresses its people.

I think it is a little of a stretch comparing the likes of Alex Jones and Rush Limbaugh with Ron Paul.  I just don't see his remarks as that off the wall.  He is actually right on the wall and that is what probably pisses the other politicians off.  You might as well believe in a fairytale if you think any other candidates "plans" are actually going to solve USA's problems.

Well Newt says he's going to drop the price of gas to 2.50$ ;)

I guess noone has told him that oil was a globally traded comodity....

Populism and making  promises to win the votes of fools who believe the politician will deliver.

See the thing is Dark_Lord_2008 is that you are either a complete and utter fool who has absolutley no clue of global economics or you are apart of the naive general population who considers Mr. Obama an actual viable politician.

Now, judging by the vocabulary you have chosen, it would be heavily appreciated if you would possibly in the future, refrain from putting your fake, paid opinions towards the well educated interent forums of this site or else be scrutinized for giving an opinion that either holds no credibility or validity.

We may all hold different opinions of political and religious backgrounds on VG but by god we at least give an educated argument about our opinion. Step it up a notch buddy because using ad hominems will not validate your argument.

Well here's your argument.

By proposing to increase the worldwide production of oil by 5%  over the next 5-10 years( that's what Newt would do, add about 5 million barrels/day to the US production) you can not have any idea that it will have any significant impact on the global oil price, especially not divide it by two, when you don't know what will happen to the other 90% of the production. Especially with the current events in the middle east and China that keeps growing at its current rate...( heck if they want Saudi Arabia can cut their production to match the US increase and nothing changes).

On top of this we are at the end of the recession, as the worldwide economy recovers so will oil consumption and that by itself will tend to push the price of oil higher...

So really giving a price target for domestic gas is foolish and can not be backed up by economics and facts. The only thing Newt can say is that his plan will have a positive effect on gas price, not a lot more....

There is however a way to get the gas price to 2.50$. But I don't think Newt is advocating that. Get us a huge new recession with worldwide impact and high unemployment and  the price of gas will drop sharply again. If things get bad enough we could get back to a 2-2.50 range like in 2008....That is the only way to achieve the goal.

So sorry but yeah when I see Sarah Palling saying she would get gas down to 2$ or Newt saying he would bring it to 2.50$ I have to laugh and call it populism...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

well i will already vote for Ron Paul. Sad that he doesn't get the media coverage he deserves and will end up losing because of it.

We deserve better from our political class than back-to-the-future populism masquerading as economic planning.

We have to keep in mind that these are the primaries. By definition, politicians on one side are going to be saying stuff that one third of the population finds stupid, and one third of the population finds downright idiotic. A lot of these pie-in-the-sky promises are going to disappear come summer from whoever the nominee is.
