Is it on the standard edition disc? If so, then it' even worse...

Yes it is, but with a difference. The Protean member is one the main standard edition disc as a NPC only, to make it a playable character, it's either with the DLC or the CE.

I don't agree with the move at all, basically because it's a dick move.

In the collectors edition won't they give you a code with cerberus network.

This is what they said.

“It takes about 3 months from “content complete” to bug-fix, certify, manufacture, and ship game discs. In that time we work on DLC.”

“On [Mass Effect 3], content creators completed the game in January & moved onto the “From Ashes” DLC, free w/ the [Collector’s Edition] or you can buy seperately.”

“DLC has fast [certification] and no [manufacturing]., so if a team works very hard, they can get a DLC done in time to enjoy it with your 1st playthrough on day 1.”

I agree Day 1 DLC is kind of a dick move, but they're doing it because they can. And ultimately a lot, of dev/publishers research what they can get away with to maximize their profits.

Well, for all we know, that could be just PR talk to avoid the backlash that this has caused, but it could also be the truth.

Either way, they did the same with the Zaeed DLC on ME2 and it was available for everyone with a new copy of ME2, so I don't see why they went the dick move strategy of putting the From Ashes DLC just for the CE. In any case, Day 1 DLC is simply a money-grabbing scheme, even if it is only a way to maximize their profits, especially since there will be a truckload of DLC coming for ME3 in the future (just look at the history of recent Bioware releases).

What you should be asking is, why are they not putting the Prothean squad member/mission on the disc and why is it launch DLC. BioWare and EA really suck balls.

Technically, it's on the disc and it's available for free for those who pay for the CE. While I don't support the move, they do have some incentives to get the CE over the normal edition, the Prothean squad member/mission is just one of those, though they should have done it like they did for Zaeed on ME2.

Wait, so let me get this straight. Even without the CE/DLC, you can still meet The Prothean but can only add him to you're squad with the CE/DLC. Wow, that suddenly seems like even more of a rip-off.

CAN PEOPLE PLEASE STOP TALKING ABOUT THE NEW SQUAD MEMBER!!!

I would DEFINITELY class it as a spoiler, and should be treated like that

I want to know as little as possible about the game before I buy it, I am very excited about playing it

Basically the Prothean squad member DLC and it's mission doesn't affect the game per se, it's just a small addition in the likes of Zaeed and Kasumi, but it will play a role as a NPC in the main game even if you don't have the DLC pack.

From what I've been reading today, after seeing that PR reply, Bioware is claiming that this was made by a separate team after the game was finished and that it isn't on the disc (the squad member capacity and it's mission) and that's why it was leaked on Xbox Live first. I just don't know what to believe anymore other than it doesn't stop it being a dick move.

I agree with you, though it would be best if the TC added a Spoilers inside tag to the titlte, seeing as the discussions already took/are taking place.

I had accidently found out who the squad member is, but the websites that I read nearly all went with spoiler warnings.... I just need to keep my head down for the next few weeks

For some reason I am thinking this game's not going to be as good as ME 2...

I prefer the male Shepard advertisement, I think it's great that they allow you to play as the female variant, but it doesn't make sense to suddenly change all the trailersetc to use the female version after all these years.

As for the DLC, it also costs money to create, thus they have the right to charge for it. Business is business.

Sorry, had I not found out about it by accident I would be with. Inly started discussing it as I already knew. Safest bet if you don't want any spoilers is to avoid anything thing until the release day. I know that between the 6th and 9th will be avoiding all gaming-related sites and taking Mass Effect and Xbox pages of my Facebook feed.

Haven't found anything out yet, thankfully. Would be good to see the old squad members returning though, Thane and Legion are my favourite ones by far.
