Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 Multiplatform - Is the tide turning at last?

Multiplatform games from last year have notoriously been better on the 360 and sometimes significantly better on the Microsoft platform than the PS3.  Rainbow Six Vegas, GRAW2, Assassins Creed and The Orange Box are all notably better on the 360 than the PS3.

The PS3 deserves to have the same if not better from each new multiplatform game that is released.  The first game that did this, was Call of Duty 4.  It was virtually identical on both the 360 and PS3 and according to the developers the PS3 version is better if only slightly.

Anyway, there are two more big multiplatform games being released over the next month, Burnout Paradise and Devil May Cry 4.  And according to reports, both versions are slightly better performance wise on the PS3.

It's about time this was happening.  Not sure whether it's down to the developers getting to grips with the new hardware or whether they are developing for the PS3 first and porting it to the 360.

Anyway, is this the turn of the tide?  Will we be seeing PS3 versions of multiplatforms games at least being equal to their 360 counterpart?

The telling signs will be with the releases of Turok, The Club, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Army of Two and Grand Theft Auto 4 over the next 3 months.

The games you list all started production back when it still looked like the PS3 wouldn't be dead last until at least 2009. If anything, decisions regarding games that start development now are made with a less positive mindset towards having the PS3 as the lead platform.

I don't understand what you're saying!  DO you mean that developers now will be less positive about making the PS3 the lead platform?

I sincerely doubt this considering, the PS3 has sold very well over the last 3-4 months.  Especially in Europe, where the PS3 is taking off now compared to the 360.

I think for the most part we have seen the end of the PS3's ports problems. Devs have had enough time to work with the system now, and have relised that PS3 owners will not buy a total clunker. The Multi-plat games that arrive at the begining of this year should all be on par with 360 of starting to lean slightly towards PS3, as Burnout and DMC4 have shown. By the end of this year I believe we will see slightly better performance from the yearly titles on the PS3, with the AAA third party games geeting some extra treatment on the system.

In 2009 I think the PS3 will begin to show that the 360 is getting old. Devs will start to have much better audio on PS3 games, which will do wonders for sports games with announcing. and atmospher. The RAM footprint for the OS will be about equal to the 360's which will only make things easyer for devs. Most importantly though, devs will really have gotten their heads around the Cell+RSX combo and how to get them to work as a team. I believe that some devs, like Rockstar, Midway, and Konami will achive that this years end.

The PS3 is slightly outselling the 360 right now. We don't how long it'll last, especially when MS decides to cut prices, and even in the best case for the PS3 it won't pass the 360 in Europe until very late this year. The strong performance of the last few months was mostly due to the 40GB model and holiday sales, neither of which is going to be happening for a while.

I think you guys are being seriously over-optimistic here. Developers are getting more used to the PS3, but the 360 is still easier and more profitable to work with.

Tell that to the makers of Assassins Creed.  In Europe/Others, the PS3 version has sold more then the 360 version even when thers is 1.5m more 360's in the region.
