Welcome to another edition weekly addition of the VGChartz Ranking Game. Contrary to some peoples' beliefs (some of you already know where I'm going with this ), I'm not an attention-seeking menstrual douchebag. As such, I'm going to be taking a chance on a title that is likely to not get a large ranking game following as a third party Wii title with Xenoblade Chronicles (I'm basing this on other "high-profile" Wii third party titles we've hosted in the past such as MH Tri and The Conduit). I was considering waiting until a good while after the NA release but that's still quite some time off and our worldwide mates have (passively) waited quite a while to share their takes. This might also convince some of us NA'ers to pick this baby up.

All you have to do is put what score you think the game below deserves, and write a brief explanation as to why it deserves that score, hell you can even just write your opinion of the game and not add a score if you want to (which we won't add to the total of course)

Voting is open for a 1 week period, after 1 week I will count up all the scores and get the average of the game. 

Rules

1. You had to have played at least enough of the game to form an honest opinion about it

2. If you score a game over or under 4 points of what it's at on Metacritic you must go into great detail for your review.

3. If you put more than 1 score per thread none of your scores will be counted.

4. A game must have at least 10 people that gave it a score to be counted.

5. Users with less than 50 posts cannot participate unless they have been a member on this site for more than a year.

This was a fantastic game so I have to give it a 9. I was happy to have imported when I did even though it's now coming out in NA.

I've only played it 20 hours. I'd give it an 8.5 so far. Close to a 9, might get there depending on how I like the 2nd half. In order to get a 9 it has to smack move over the head with wow, ZOMG this is amazing, and aside from the environments it hasn't done that yet. It's a great game.

Humongous and beautiful enviornments and towns. I don't think I've really seen any game this huge in a JRPG. Maybe, DQ8, FF12. Maybe I'm just delusional. I'm using dolphin so the environments are spectacular.

It's the best Xeno-game. with probably my least favorite story of them all imo. Xenogears, Xenosaga 1-3, other than maybe xenosaga 2. But, it's gameplay is leagues better than any of them imo.

The only things that really sticks out as a negative. Is their battlechants are quite more annoying than usual.
And my other complaint with pretty much every JRPG in general other than Demon Soul's or SMT games. It's too easy. But I heard it's more difficult later.

Finished the game this week after playing for 170 hours. I wouldn't have played this much if I didn't like it so much and this definitely reflects on my score.

It was good. I gave it an 8 on my wall. The VA grated on me after just 2 hours so you can imagine how I felt after 50+ hours of the game. The sidequests could have really used some refinement. You'd be surprised but a lot of the time less is more and the sidequests were just awfully generic and tacked on. The combat was ok but wouldn't have seemed out of place in an MMORPG, more depth to it would have been preferred. The world was large but barren, really could have used more life to it. Also the character models are disgusting even for a Wii game, this is only exacerbated when you emulate your copy of the game at 1080p. Even with these criticisms it's still the best JRPG on the Wii by a long shot.

The status on my profile refers to a 100 % file with 999 affinity coins, so no worries. I've played more than enough of the game to rate it. Xenoblade Chronicles is fantastic.

A huge world with barely any loading times. Very fun to play. A lot of freedom is given to the player right from the outset. Follow the storyline or explore the world and do sidequests. At almost any point in the game it's up to the player to decide what he wants to do. The comfortable quick travel function is available from the start, but of course you need to activate travel points first. This makes it really easy to jump from one point to another and concentrate on the stuff you want to do.

The battle system works very well, even though there are no magic points and battle items whatsoever. Techniques replenish over time, so you can use them in every battle. The various characters all have their own advantages and disadvantages, so there isn't something like the perfect party. 16 techniques per character, up to eight of them can be equipped for use in battle and they can be upgraded in ten steps.

Sidequests... well, there's a lot of them. Strangely enough, just yesterday I found one I didn't know of yet and it is one that really ties in with the main story, featuring about ten minutes of cutscenes. It's the only one of that kind though, all the rest is doing errands for NPCs with names or without names. The NPCs with names are added to an affinity chart which displays the status of all these people, plus the popularity level of your party in the various parts of the game's world. You can earn a lot of stuff in the over 400 sidequests, so much that you never have to buy any weapons or armor.

There are also over 150 special monsters in this world who are more dangerous than the rest of their respective species. Beating one of them gives you an affinity coin which you can use to link skills of your characters, ultimately turning them into real powerhouses.

The world is huge, but there's also a lot of stuff to do. A quest log keeps you up to date on the status of all the quests you have accepted. There are also 200 trophies (achievements) which also earn you EXP upon completion. Finding new areas and travel points also gives your party EXP, skill points and tech points. This brings me to the negative stuff.

Due to the freedom offered to the player and sidequests, travel points and trophies earning you EXP, the game can quickly become too easy, if you explore every area fully as soon you enter it. However, the level of enemies is displayed, so for a player with a brain it isn't hard to maintain a party level that keeps the game challenging. The most disappointing thing is that XC is also guilty of the greatest sin in JRPGs: points of no return. The game gives you some indication on when you reach one, but if you haven't accepted certain sidequests, you will never know that you have missed them for good.

There's also a new game plus, but it's pretty bad, because the level of your party is transfered, making the game a walk in the park. Sidequests and the affinity chart reset, so the main purpose of new game plus seems to be to see the different outcome of those sidequests that offer you more than one way to complete them.

Bottom line: Points of no return, new game plus and too many things that give you EXP early on in the game are bad things.

9.1/10. Probably the best JRPG released in the seventh generation. The Last Story comes out this week and is the only real contender left. I am hoping for the best, but it looks likely that the online multiplayer modes feature some exclusive weapons/items which is a big minus.
