If its open world at the expense of story OH GOD YES!!!!!,

If the two can co-exist then I have no problem with open world games, the prevailing open world watered down 'make your own tale by going wherever you want' affairs make stories so awful, tedious & bland its not even worth the time playing them imo. Even one ofr two real fleshed out characters would be nice, and a villian who isnt an unexplained-in-motive (besides "hes evil") sorceror or dragon.

Havent tried kingdoms of amalur or the witcher 2 yet, hoping one of those will break the usual sea of mistakes (imo of course, this whole statement is just my opinion) that commonly exist in these titles.

& it definitely can be done, Final Fantasy 12 is my favourite game &that is open world, but it has a strong overaching story with developed characters & a villain who is quite understandable in his actions (& not a sorceror or dragon).

Come on kingdoms of amalur & the witcher 2! I have hope!

Witcher 2 isn't open world at all. It operates off of three centralized hubs, with a prologue that is almost entirely linear. The third hub is much smaller than the first two. It is not open world at all.

Do u mean something special by "centralized" hub, or is it just a way of describing that they're typical hubs?

These three hubs, how are they accessible? O`nly one at a time or all three simultaneously?

Not much to add other than, hell no!!! They are my favorite type of game and there are much variety from the GTA types to the fallout types. Not to forget about Assassin's creed and Infamous, I could go on. All I want is more and more variety and since they are very popular I am 100% sure they are here to stay whether anyone is sick of them or not.

Never was a fan of them in the first place. For me, it gets a little boring with all the tiny stuff to do. But that's just me. Half my friends love em.

One at a time. Witcher 2's construction is kind of open world - but it's more like three sets of smaller open worlds, each with a bevy of quests you can handle whenever yo uwant. But if you progress the story too far, you go into the next hub and lose your opportunity to finish those quests.

It strikes a pretty decent balance, though I imagine this post has put you off buying the game.

I dislike them with passion nothing is synonimous with boredom like open world game for me.

I want my games to be an interactive story and you can't make good story in open world game.

lol no. I knew Witcher 2 wasn't true open world and neither was the first one. I like games with hub design structure though (and FYI I have enjoyed many good linear games lately). Dark Souls, Zelda, what else hub games are there?

I think there's a decent chance I will like The Witcher 2 and I've decided to get it when I get a new PC. You think The Witcher 2 is a really good game right? Better than Skyrim (there, I said it)?

Yes, I think Witcher 2 is definitely the best Western game released last year.

No, because I didn't like them in the first place. You just keep looking for something interesting to do, whether that is the story, optional quests or random nonsense, but nothing's there.

Has there ever been a real open world game on Nintendo consoles? Because I cannot think of any off hand. Most of them I could think of would be the old NES or SNES Zeldas , but all the 3D Zeldas or any other Nitendo game I can think of was only a psuedo-open world game.

If stuff like Bully, True Crime and The Godfather counts, then yes.

Believe it or not, but Nintendo isn't the only company that published games on Nintendo systems.

just ligitamitely curious as it is clear there are less on Nintendo consoles. I asked cuz your the expert bro.

I opened this thread a few days ago, and thought "Obviously not, what a silly question", but after reading the comments and thinking about it for a bit, I sort of am.

Choices are great. Having the option of either doing the main quest or a side quest is brilliant. However, having there being far, far more side-quests than main quests isn't really good. You have games like Kingdoms of Amalur, which has a brilliant main quest (or at least appears to, so far), but keeps trying to make you do its relatively boring side-quests instead. That's obviously not wanted.

I think my point is that I like having the side-quests be completely optional side-quests. When the game tries to make you do the side-quests instead of the main quest, that's not really good.

At the same time, I'm not particularly fond of the side-quests being virtually the entire game, ala Skyrim. Skyrim is a lovely game, it's not that, but I'd like it a lot more if it had some more actual, proper quest-lines in it.
