Forums - Sony Discussion - What I Think Needs To Be Seen In PlayStation 4 Next Generation! Message To Sony!

I'm going to start this off by saying that i'm STILL a rookie at making threads so go easy on me if i make any mistakes

everything that i have to say is just my opinion so dont get mad if i say something that you dont like ;)

I've had a lot of thoughts about PlayStation 4 and i've decided to put some of them here

> <

I have seen a few wish lists about some things that should be seen on the PlayStation 4 but i feel that nobody really touched on some things that i personally have been wanting to see

now lets dive right into this

DualShock 4

Now i always thought that Sonys main PlayStation controller design has been perfect since day 1 so i dont see a reason why they should switch the controller design.

the wirless DualShock 3 had

- Rumble + Six-Axis

- Bluetooth

- Home button

- Usb mini-B connector

- 3.7 V Li-ion battery, which provided up to 30 hours of continous gaming on a full charge.

Now 1 thing i want to see added in PlayStation 4's DualShock 4 controller are blue leds under the PS home button and the 4 lights at the top like so

> <

below is not my video but this is how my controller looks minus the little button/trigger thing on the back of the controller

> <

I personally like the blue leds the most

it compliments the BLUEtooth and the BLUray ;)

and if possible, there should be an option to make the led stay on while playing or turn off after about 10 seconds of not being pressed <-- more options for consumers just in case they/we want to adjust them a bit

Another thing that i would like to see in PlayStation 4's DualShock 4 controllers are slightly better R2 and L2 buttons

^^^ on the R2/L2 button just kinda like make the button cave in a little in the middle starting near the top of the "2" and make it go back upwards near the edge of the button to kinda of make your fingers cuff the buttons if that makes any sense

idk but it's kinda hard to explain what im trying to say here but hopefully everybody gets what im saying

but nothing too serious though

^^^ see these triggers are a bit too... a bit too.. hmm.. i cant really think of the word i'm looking for. I'll just say that these specific triggers add too much to the controller IMO

I would just rather have them take the regular trigger how it is and just cave it in around the middle and make it go back upwards towards the edge of it but that's just me

I also think that the DualShock 4 controller should have a lithium ion battery that could last for about 45 hours of continous gaming on a full charge this time around. It's usb mini connector should of course support USB 3.0 for faster charging.

^^^ the last thing i want to see added to the DualShock 4 is like a mini plug thingy on the bottom of the controller like between the L3 AND R3 Analog sticks. It should be right smack dab where the back and front of the controller meet

i will get back to to this "mini plug thing" a little bit later below ;)

oh and 1 thing that must NEVER be changed going forward to the DualShock 4 is the D-PAD! KEEP IT THE SAME SONY!!

User-Interface

okay now something i want to see here on PlayStation 4 is dynamic themes like this below with music in the background

here is an example with Gran Turismo 5 and Flower

> <

> <

^^^ I would buy dynamic themes like this in a heart beat!

but on to the default original background/startup part

> <

^^^ Now this is what i got from the ps2 interface

The ps2 interface made me almost sometimes think that the ps2 was alive! I always got that the 4 little orbs of light represented circle, X, square and triangle. If you listen you would almost think that there was like some sort of dark, misty body of water somewhere close by

and sometimes you would also notice that there would be a lot of white pillar type things in the back representing how much memory is used up on your memory card

Now with the PlayStation 4 i was thinking something like this

picture yourself floating in an unknown dark area and there is nothing but a dark ocean beneath you, and there is nothing but a dark endless ocean that is visible everywhere you look

now picture yourself looking down straight at the ocean and eventually sticking your face like halfway in the water. now all you appear to see is a vast dark bottomless, endless ocean. picture it being very clear but kinda dark at the same time, and everything appears to be like around a purple-ish black-ish and blue-ish color

now picture those same circle, x, square and triangle orb lights moving around in the water as if they were flying and not swimming.

and i know every body remembers the PlayStation wave that's the default background in every ps3 right? yea, picture like hundreds or even thousands of those PlayStation waves far off and deeply scattered within the dark endless ocean. Each wave represents a person that is also a part of this remote place. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

ALSO Each 1 of these waves basically represents a persons network window/entrance/doorway to this place

since you are in the ocean, you are obviously below the surface/ground so you should also get the feel that you are UnderGround

this is the PlayStation Universe!

^^^ here is an image that i feel seems to be closest visually to something i am trying to describe but i cant find any others

and the image below is basically a "PlayStation wave" that i am talking about, just in case anybody forgot

THIS is something that i thought could possibly be the PS4 theme

I have no clue how the OS would be though

..maybe a mixture between ps3 and psVita's OS

PlayStation UnderGround

With PS4, I think Sony should scrap the name "PlayStation Plus" and rename the premium online service PlayStation Underground. When PlayStation Plus was 1st announced i always said to myself "why didn't Sony just call it PlayStation UnderGround?"

i think the name alone sounds a lot better than PS Plus

the name PS Plus always sounded weak to me for some reason. I would be hesitant to tell someone that i am subscribed to "Plus".

Also, when i think of "plus" i think of a service that is trying to be like Xbox Live. I wouldn't think this with "UnderGround"

and i personally think "PlayStation UnderGround vs Xbox Live" sounds miles more legit than "PlayStation Plus vs Xbox Live"

If they would have went with the name PlayStation UnderGround on ps3 then i probably would have bought the premium service DAY 1 just because of the name alone

mainly because i used to be so familiar with it back on PS1 and early PS2

> <

so from now on in this thread i'm just going to to call the premium online service "UnderGround" instead of "plus"

While PS4 still has the free online service, I think that everything should revolve around PlayStation UnderGround

> <

^^^ it's going to be nice feeling like this again with the new console :)

PlayStation Store

somewhere in PS4's PlayStation Store, there should be a weekly Top 10 list of the most popular online games being played that week. In the background of the list, there should be like a small montage of whats going on within PlayStation UnderGround. It should probably have a bunch of warhawk/starhawk battles going on in the air while in the middle you can see Sweet Tooth battling with other Twisted cars and maybe like some underwater battles are going on at the very bottom while hearing the explosions and stuff in the background

On the Home page of the PlayStation store, there should be a Top 10 UnderGround members list. The person who is in the number 1 spot will of course be "Player Of The Week". The players on the list will be the people who dominated in online gaming the most throughout PlayStation UnderGround that specific week. "Player Of The Week" will have the choice to purchase ANY 1 game on the PlayStation Store for free, maybe have their account featured in Pulse and be on the home page of the PlayStation Store for that whole week

There should also be a weekly Top 10 downloadable games list in the downloadable game section. This specific list should be divided into a Top downloaded and Top rated list of that week

^^of course the top rated can only be rated by UnderGround members just to ensure that none of the games got unfairly spammed

Faster Trophy sync

enough said!

PSN Accounts

PSN accounts should have a slight bit more depth on PS4

maybe something simple like adding a Top 3 of the individuals favorite PS4 games and a Top 3 of that individuals favorite users on UnderGround

PlayStation Home

i havnt really explored too much of Home myself and my idea of home isnt fully developed in my mind yet but i will go ahead and say what's been on my mind about it anyways

Now on PS4, i think that PS Home and Trophies should heavily revolve around eachother. Actually, they need to take advantage of eachother creating an addiction. When i log into home there needs to be something implemented within home that would make me want to go out and earn trophies ASAP. There also needs to be something implemented within the Trophy system that would make me want to get on home almost EVERYTIME i earn a trophy

and no, im not talking about the Trophy room

> <

^^^ the Trophy room does need to make it in the PS4 version of home though

something needs to be created in home that will make me feel deprived without trophies. Besides a person collecting trophies for bragging rights and the fact that they love the game, Home needs to be the main reason why a person would want to collect Trophies.

There needs to be a Home space for EVERY SINGLE game that gets released in the PlayStation 4's retail library no matter how poorly a game is recieved

I was also thinking that there needs to be some kind of rpg system integrated in Home. The rpg system should of course revolve around Trophies and doing stuff in Home. It should also somehow motivate an individual to want to visit every single Home space in Home. Now when the individual gets to the Home space, there needs to be something in that specific space that should be hidden or locked until the individual gets the Platinum Trophy for that specific game that the space is dedicated to.

^^ something like this could give some people the drive to want to GAME and get Trophies in games that they wouldn't have never even thought about playng

There also needs to be a strong push for PlayStation UnderGround in Home aswell. Maybe a few things should be available in Home exclusively to the UnderGround members because i guess they would most likely be the TRUE gamers. Basically Home would only be seen at it's fullest experience and potential by UnderGround members

MINI EDIT:

Light RPG system within Home

i still dont have too much on this yet but i was thinking that whenever you aproach somebody in Home, there should be like an option to check this members Home status/Home card or whatever it would be called. On the status card thingy, there should be a picure of the individual, a mini bio, there Trophy count, there Home-level, a Top-3 of their favorite PS4 games, a Top-3 of their favorite friends within Home and like a user-rated system. The user-rated thing will be like a thumbs up/thumbs down rating that will basically let newer individuals know how this person has been rated by other users they have interacted with in Home. This would be a good way to let you know who the assholes/trolls/pervs are. Only UnderGround members would have the ability to rate people just to make sure that nobody gets spammed

Also on the Home status card thing there should be a little system that tells you how often the user logs into Home, How social they are in Home and maybe like a preview image of their personal Home Space

My idea about what the Home-Level  would evolve around is still up in the air

Trophys within Home

I think that the main currency in the PS4 version of Home should mainly be Trophies! Real money should be like a second optional way to get some other little things in Home.

of course the main stuff should be in the UnderGround Trophy Store.

UnderGround Trophy Store

Now The Trophy Store would of course be the main store in Home. The Trophy store would have all the things that wouldn't be found on the regular Home store. Only UnderGround members would be able to access the Trophy Store

A regular decent but small looking house would cost around 2-4 Platinum Trophies depending on the size while the more luxurious 2 story houses would cost up to around 8-13 Platinum Trophies a piece depending on the size and what not. The regular looking settings/background would be like 1-2 Platinums while The much nicer and detailed settings would be around 3-5 Platinums a piece. Stuff like the nicest Yachts, cars and what not would also probably be in the Platinum range

stuff like Basketball goals, wishing wells, fountains, nice furniture and stuff like that would probably be in the silver range. Stuff there would cost like 5 to 100 Silver Trophies a piece depending on the item

stuff in the bronze range would be like the smaller items. Im guessing some of the items there would be like 1 to like 500 a piece depending on what you get

Also if an individual does not want to purchase everything individually, there would still be the dedicated Home spaces that come from your favorite game. these would all come equipped with a house, background/setting and furniture

Now i know some people reading this are probably saying "DAMN! that stuff is expensive though!" well i know ;) when ever you see that somebody house a nicer Homepsce than you, you should know that they worked and GAMED hard to have all that luxurious stuff

the regular store should have the limited stuff that would of course cost you REAL money, if not free . Of course the stuff here couldnt touch the stuff that could be bought in the Trophy Store

I think that there should be an item in the Trophy Store that is basically like a built in wall radio that plays your personal "Home space" playlist in your personal Home space. This playlist will be heard by whoever visits your Home space. The Home space radio would cost around 5-10 Silver Trophys. There should also be a walking around radio/ipod in the Trophy store that plays a personal playlist for it lowly in the background while you are exploring/walking around in Home

This is pretty much everything i can think of right now with the PS4 version of Home

and i havn't been on Home IN A LONG time so if something i said already exists in the PS3 version of Home, sorry in advance :)

Crash Bandicoot and Spyro The Dragon

I honestly dont see any reason why Activision is still holding on to these franchises

does anybody remember enjoying any of the last installments of these 2 franchises while under activision? *crickets* yea ok, i thought so

yea i think it's time to go on ahead and sell these games to Sony now, Activision

now we all heard about the Sony Smash Bros game coming soon and i just cant help but wonder if Crash and Spyro are going to be in it

i know that they might not be present in the game but i will still be VASTLY dissapointed when i see that they are not in the game

PlayStation 4 Hardware/pricing

$400!

I'm almost 100% sure that most likely, the PS4 will be released at a loss

I'm thinking that a $100 loss should be the max for PS4. $500 to make + the R&D stuff. Then sell it at $400

but of course it has already been confirmed that PS4 wont be as heavily invested in like PS3

a PS4 priced at $400 should be able to run this below with no problems, hopefully

> <

^^^ supposedly requires 2.5 TFLOPS to run (i have no clue what the hell that means)

I dont really know too much about the hardware side of consoles besides like ram

PS4 GPU: dont know too much about it

PS4 CPU: dont know too much about it

PS4 Ram: 6 GB TOTAL Ram

I found that maybe 8gb was too much ram for PS4 next gen and 4GB seemed to be just right for now but since my laptop has 4 gb of ram in it and the average amount of RAM in laptops today(2011) is 4 GB i thought that maybe 6 would be more ideal

PS4 HardDrive: 320 gb HDD

^^^ Solid State Drives simply cost too much right now

PS4 Disc Media: 100 gb capable Blu Ray disc with upgraded Blu Ray drive

this is pretty much all that i know about hardware besides stuff like bluetooth, usb etc

Embrace The Developers

ok you guys have to embrace every developer, Sony!

I was shocked when i heard about why Super Meat Boy didn't release on PS3 --> http://www.destructoid.com/no-super-meat-boy-on-ps3-and-you-can-blame-sony-187645.phtml <-- like what the hell was that all about Sony!?! you have to make sure that this NEVER happens again!

and just dont make PS4 too hard to develop for

American Territory

Now in order for the PlayStation to take back America, you have to shoot for THE TOP FRANCHISES in that market.

The Highest selling game in America on PS2 was Grand Theft Auto

so in Microsofts position WITH 360, of course they couldn't just get GTA exclusively on their system because it was a PlayStation known franchise

so of course they did the next best thing and shot for exclusive dlc. They basically gave people a reason to get the game on their system

now this is what needs to be done with PS4, look at the top franchises last gen(this gen) which would be Call Of Duty and Grand Theft Auto. Now you have to give people a reason to buy the game on your console(getting exclusive dlc). If it's not possible then you just have to make sure that YOUR customers wont have a reason to buy the game on the competitors system(the competitor having exclusive dlc). make sure both versions are the same

now i honestly think that microsoft is going to smart enough to not let the PS4 get exclusive content or what not on the PS4 version of any Call Of Duty game next gen. If anything Microsoft will still be working closely with Activision next gen. You guys have to stop letting Microsoft give the customers a reason to buy Call Of Duty on their console.

Now the next major American game under Call Of Duty is of course Grand Theft Auto.

Like i said before, you can't let Microsoft give the customers a reason to buy GTA on their system next gen like we seen with GTA 4 this gen. i'm sure that there will be no dlc announced exclusively for the 360 version of Grand Theft Auto 5 at E3 2012

I dont think the PS4 can fully take back america next gen but it can certainly make sure to not lag behind sales wise like this gen.

you just have to give Americans a reason to buy their favorite games on YOUR console and if you cant do that, the most you CAN do is make sure that your competitor isnt giving the customers a reason to buy their favorite game on their console

I honestly think you guys have this figured out already though for the most part ;)

Accessories

PS3 Wireless Keypad

this is really the only accessory that i found to be controversial

i think that it's nice that it has it's own battery and you can charge it on it's own

this is where the mini plug thingy on the bottom of the DualShock 4 controller comes in at that i was talking about earlier. I think that this keypad should be plugged in on the bottom of the controller instead of the top. There should also be the option for it to either run on it's own battery, run on the DS4 battery via the mini plug on the bottom of the controller OR run off of both at the same time

the pad should also have back lit keys AND the keys should be a bit bigger

the track pad thing would also be a nice feature again aswell if possible

PlayStation Move

just make an upgraded PlayStation Move for PS4 of course

that's all i have to really say about that

PlayStation Eye

I think Sony needs to make 2 versions of the PlayStation Eye on PS4

the mini PSEye and the big PSEye

the mini PSEye should of course be an upgraded version around the same size as the one on ps3

the big PSEye should of course rival the competitions next generation product of a similar sort. Everybody knows what im talking about. The image below speaks for itself ;)

im just putting this for rivalry purposes and of course it probably shouldnt look exactly like this but you get the idea

Tablet Controller

I'm also only putting this for rivalry purposes

im sure the PSVita will be able to do everything the competitors tablet can do but the PS Vita costs $250 and must be bought seperately while the competitors tablet will most likely come bundled with their console and might cost around $100 seperately

so maybe Sony should make a dedicated PS4 Tablet Controller just for rivalry purposes

PS3 And PS Vita

from my understanding, PlayStation Vita will be losing about $60 each sale on it's cheapest version due to it being sold at a loss

i would say NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, just keep the Vita price at $250 until the cost to make the cheapest version of Vita hits ATLEAST $190

I think that the PS3 should receive no more price cuts. just keep the ps3 at $250

dont drop the price this holiday season or in next years holiday season

i just had to get some of this stuff off my chest

if there are some things that you disagree with or think that i have missed, just let it be known below ;)

Around the Network

qwerty keyboard at the bottom and a name change for PS+. That's all I got from reading that.

interesting but i will disagree of the gameplay options
EyeToy Basic
Move
Eye Toy Advanced
Vita cross play
PS Tablet
Duelshock 4

..
all i want it DS4. i think sony not trying to get all the casual market next time might actually help them as Ninendo and Microsoft will be going after them hard

Hmmm i dont think an upgraded PS3 will do the trick, which is pretty much what you suggesting

I think that will lead to the demise of Sony...MS already has a strong foot with the hardcore audience and in a way so does Nintendo. If sony is only going to be going for the core market then thats limiting themselves to just the Sony core which is not that much anymore.

If the core market was so lucrative then neither of the companies would be going for the casual market as hard as they are trying to. The main issue is costs, costs are really high to produce quality games. And sales coming only from the core market cant cover these costs. This is where the casual comes in.

I think Sony should try to go after them aswell

you see that Nintendo is trying to expand by getting better 3rd party support with Wii U and microsoft is rumoured to be going after what Nintendo is about to go after in the Tablet section so why should Sony just sit there?

That might have worked to an extent on the ps3 but the ps4 doesnt have the same things going for it.

Intel Core i7 3770K [3.5GHz]|MSI Big Bang Z77 Mpower|Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1866 2 x 4GB|MSI GeForce GTX 560 ti Twin Frozr 2|OCZ Vertex 4 128GB|Corsair HX750|Cooler Master CM 690II Advanced|

Specs:

CPU: Some sort of upgraded/multi-core CELL processor or an i7 quad-core processor. Either @ around 3.4GHz.

GPU: Based on the GTX 580.

RAM: 2GB vRAM, 2-4GB Main RAM.

I put very similar specs into games-debate.com to see if it could run Battlefield 3. This build can run it at high settings at 1080p, keep in mind this is without optimization/clever coding.

I think this could launch for $400, possibly less but I doubt it because of SONYs financial situation at the moment.

Controller(s):

Dualshock 4 - keep the base design of the Dualshock 3, replace R2/L2 with triggers, make it 5-10% larger. Maybe add a rear touchpad  somehow, depending on what devs to with it on VITA. Ditch sixaxis to keep costs down. Maybe put keypad on the bottom on the controller (between the handles).

Motion controls: MOVE 2, Upgraded EYETOY (which would be an upgraded Kinect).

UI:

Refined XMB, take away the clutter, make it more attractive. Put focus the network section (3 icons on the far right), redesigned PSN (includes friends list, trophies, Store etc.)
