Forums - Gaming Discussion - Mass Effect 3 Demo

Anyone else downloaded and played it? I found it pretty neat, was considering not buying it for few months.. But I think release date for me now, I just can't wait to see what will happen! If not buy, a rental at least.

Downloaded it on PC, holy monkey balls the screen tearing and the graphics options are a joke. Why do you do this Bioware?

Edit: But I'd like to add that I mostly enjoyed it. Not too excited about it though

I didn't actually notice any screen tearing on 360, the graphics were OK, but then again it is a demo, however, the animations were pretty poor. They did do a pretty controversial scene in there, won't spoil it for anyone, but I was like "DAAAAAAMNNN REAPERS!".

Tried out vanguard too, pretty awesome too.

Why isn't it on PSN yet? I have no room on my Xbox.

The screen tearing was mostly tied to the cutscenes, likely because of wonky locked FPS in those scenes. That scene was good, liked the music too but I can't shake the feeling that they don't want to make RPG's anymore. A shame really, since they were once some of the best in the genre.

Indeed, the option that you had at the start kinda gave that away - story driven/RPG/Shooter based gameplay.

BioWare

The demo is not final game code. We fix bugs until the last second and unfortunately that means lots of bugs end up in demos that aren't in the final game. That's pretty much the only way for us to get you guys a demo out BEFORE the game is out (since demo also has to go through Microsoft/Sony certification).

is mass effect 3 more like mass effect 2 or more like mass effect?
does mass effect 3 have more FPS elements or RPG elements?

My hopes and dreams for this franchise were shattered when I played ME2. After 10 hours, I just stopped caring, Every fight up to that point went down the same way, the combat just got stale and I didn't care much for the story (should have played ME1 -_- ) It was nothing like I thought it would be after all the hype and GOTY shit.

The demo was mainly combat/story driven. So there was really no way to experience the RPG elements so far, the combat is like ME2 however, with few minor additions - stronger melee and different guns I suppose.

I hated combat on ME1, absolutely horrid, ME2 combat was easy to pick up and satisfying in some cases. Still to see whether they have maintained the levels of RPG, but at the start of the demo you are given a playstyle in which you want to experience the game;

Action driven - so story dialogues etc get picked for you and you just have more time to shoot shit.

Story driven - combat is easier than usual, and it's more about the story.

RPG - pretty much varying combat difficulty, with ability to pick story dialogue and RPG elements I guess.

I've avoided the demo to the best of my ability. I've got it preordered and I want the experience to be as fresh as possible.

There are layers to what I like about this demo.

The second half of the single-player demo is actually poorly constructed but it highlights a nice aspect of the game even in how it obfuscates one of the mechanics.

A person playing any class but Soldier will notice that in the latter part of the demo, your power cooldowns are stupidly high. Based on this, one might assume that Bioware wants you to play it like a shooter!

But this is not so. The hting is that Shepard now has a weight capacity, which is affected by the number and type of guns being carried (also possibly armor type). If you go over the weight capacity, your power cooldown starts skyrocketing. The latter half of the demo has your cooldowns agonizingly slow because the rat bastards designing the demo gave you one of every weapon type except a sniper rifle.

I'm running around in multiplayer carrying nothing but a shotgun, and I've shaved 45% off my cooldown time based on my weight bonus alone.

What this does is it creates a dynamic where you have to choose between variety of weapon (within your weight range) versus fast power cooldowns. It kind of highlights the "either or" stat change mechanic that's further highlighted by the skills you choose between.

There's going to be a massive number of synergistic, completely viable, and unique stat/skill combinations in this game. That's just, that's just stupidly exciting. I am so excited.

I also like how yoru allies are now better at using cover and surviving aggro. Got the Atlas to go after Garrus and Liara, which let me flank it and shove my shotgun right up its ass.
