Forums - Sony Discussion - 'Vita games are worth £40,' says Sony boss

Why spend £40 on a PS Vita game when you can get the exact same game on the PS3 for the exact same price???

(BTW my opinion is that handhelds are an abomination in the gaming world. I see them as a waste of money as you pay around the same price for a PSP/ PS Vita as you do for the PS3 and you get a smaller screen, controls, games etc you also find that the games aren't as fun to play as they are on the PS3)

Finally, a kindred spirit. I feel exactly the same way you do in this regard. Mobile gaming is downsized gaming; you get less of everything. Less screen size, less sound, less graphical power and less battery, all for pretty much the same price. And then there's neck injury from having to keep your head tilted at weird angles in order to mantain a line of sight with whatever it is you're holding in your hands. Some people stare at their controllers to see what button they're supposed to be pushing, yet some stare at them because they have no other choice; the control buttons are stuck to the screen. Expensive minimalism (another name for elitist poverty) taken to the extreme. In a world, where humanity were forced to live in phone booths, this mobile gaming obcenity would actually be a necessary evil. Fortunately, most of us have rooms, TV's and chairs of sofas. [sigh] I just don't understand mobile gaming.

What about people who never get out of bed? Then you'd need something which can play all your sad music and angry birds because you're just so angsty.

Tease.

well after that 7.0 reveiw i saw of uncharted i do not think so . 29.99 at the highest should be the price for a game like that . and thats being generous ,. or even 40 but 50 i dont think so , no hand held game is worth 50 unless bundled with somthing specails thats a different story.

capcom realised that and lowered the re price so ya

40 is the highest id spend on handheld games.
if the conditions are right
1 its not a streight port from console
2 good game (asphalt mariokart 7 sm3dland re revelations)
3 length . if its somthing like cod it is not worth my 40-50 bucks .
ill be waiting til it hits the bargin bin

where does this ignorant belief that Handheld games have less value than console games come in? I spent 140 hours on Pokemon Black/white easily and would have gladly paid 60 for that....(I paid 35). Final Fantasy Tactics Advance I clocked in somewhere betweeen 50 and 80 hours by the time each was said and done. Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Zelda games...these are just as fun and have just as much value as their console counterparts and after seeing Call of Duty sell for 60 bucks in spite of a less than 4 hour campaign and what amounts to a glorified online map pack...well, I think people and their values are a touch misplaced.

I will gladly buy handheld games at the prices they ask, as long as the content's there. golden Abyss is equal in gameplay quality and apparently longer in the campaign than any Uncharted game before it, so 50 bucks is a fair price. I also love that they have different pricing for games, the fact that I can get some games for 30 bucks (wipeout, modNation, various others) as well as games like Rayman Origins, Marvel vs Capcom, and various other games that were 60 on consoles for 40 on handhelds is a damn good deal to me.

And the fact that it's portable certainly helps. I can play these games on the bus, on flights, in the living room while my friends are chatting, anywhere.

Definitely worth the money.

I just paid £40 for Resident Evil Revelations, and I think that's fine- so I don't see the issue with this either

Wait, $40 or £40?

US 50$ and Europe £40.

Fail of the day.

EDIT: Yesterday I mean....

Okay, lemme get this straight...MOST 3DS games are 40 bucks (almost all the ones I've seen have been 39.99), and nobody complained about that.

as far as I know, MOST Vita games will be 40 bucks....so what's the big deal? both systems are going to have the same price point, and as we saw with Resident Evil Revelations, it's clear developers are willing to make SOME games 50 bucks on the 3DS (even though the prices went down), and some 3DS games are priced at 30 bucks.

These two consoles are the same in pricing for the most part, can someone please explain to my why there's hate for Sony claiming "no handheld games are worth that" when we've all been paying 40 bucks a pop for DS, PSP, and 3DS games for years now without even a hint of regret?

50 bucks for Uncharted is a fair deal, from what I can tell. It's longer than the console Uncharted games, and it's on a handheld. Yep, not seeing an issue here.

I hate to say it, but your bias is showing. (cue the flames screaming 'NO U' in 3, 2, 1,....)

This is all about 'perceived value'. What some people value a handheld game is different than others.
The majority of people will not pay 50+ for a handheld game and this is fact.
Doesn't matter if some people think its worth 60 or how much you clocked your game.
Of course company will try to capture the highest value they think they can get from their consumers.

For example:
$100 they sell 5: 5 ppl 'think' its worth $100
$60 they sell 20: The first 5 will buy it regardless because they think its worht 100 but they sold an additional 15 copys
$40 they sell 100. The first 20 will buy regardless, but now they got an additional 80.. etc etc

What anyone thinks about the price doesn't even matter because the market will show you the answer.
If the ps vita software tanks we will know.
