Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo bought mobiclip

That happened last october but now it's effective, the company does mostly video codecs and DRM:

Mobiclip is now a subsidiary of Nintendo. Mobiclip is a Research and Development center specialized in the field of highly optimized software technologies. We are commited to provide the gaming industry with the latest innovations in middleware.

Could be a good move on Nintendo's part.

Interesting. Perhaps in an effort to have Wii U middleware developed in house, so they don't get screwed over again when companies like Epic inevitably scorn them.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

What does the picture have to do with the post? What am I not seeing here?

Wikipedia - Sony Pictures Digital and The Carphone Warehouse used Mobiclip software to deliver TV-like full length movies on MicroSD memory cards for smart phones.

The video compression technology offered by Mobiclip was an optimized response to the battery life and video quality requirements of Nintendo mobile video gaming platforms: Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP and Nintendo DS.

Well theres your answer, and it looks like Nintendo may've taken a significant swipe against its mobile competitors, and Sony. I would assume that Mobiclip have significant patents in this field.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
