Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony: We Should Probably Develop Less Games

Sure, the trend is to make bold statements so that if they come true one can claim so masterful bit of insightful prognostication.  But the reality is that we NEVER know how good ANY game will turn out.  To declare AAA dominance for so many of the PS3 exclusives last year prior to their release was just not a balanced or constructive approach for discussions on these forums.  Especially when it was used so wantonly to beat up the 360 and Microsoft Game Studios.  Fortunately more balanced individuals like Yoshida can view competitors as a platform for learning instead of seeking opportunities for public verbal teabagging...

Of course, we don't know, that's why we make predictions. Predictions are the driving force of many of the threads on here and there's nothing wrong with them, And considering the reception of many of the franchises, it looked plausible that the PS3 would dominate in AAA exclusives.

I do agree that there were a lot of people overdoing the lineup though (I even did so myself). Many people used it to throw cheapshots at MS & the Xbox.

Didn't you guys learn the old "lineup", folled by the words "to name a few", or preceeded by "not to mention" was the single most pathetic, annoying, sad, twatty, cheap identification marks of a fanboy (to name a few) lol.

Seriously though Jay you have been here a while, you are aware that the "lineup" has been done since before the PS3 was even released, we're talking 5 years....uhhhh "not to mention"....1 year, 2 years, 3 years, 4 years...

It still haunts me, those long lists of games that never actually released in the year mentioned, can remember "Heavenly Sword" used to be on all those lists and "Warhawk" too.

See, there is no excuse for the lineup after the past humiliation. I don't think it's a cheapshot at MS, just makes a person doing it look very stupid and fanboyish.

They should stop making games like the disappointing socom series.

Yeah, they should instead start making the satisfying socom series.

They SUK at advertising their games, it sickens me >.>

At least they do a better job advertising their games than they have advertising the Vita. Credit where credit's due.

No the Vita actually has decent ads, the Taco Bell thing was wise.

Don't know what you mean by "you guys" but I probably don't like it.

I didn't become active here until 2011, so I can't comment on trends before then.

While this may offend some people on this site, Sony's biggest mistake this entire generation has been to focus almost entirely on the wishes of the vocal minority of gamers who hang out on gaming websites ... Certainly, Sony has produced many great games this generation but if you want chart topping success you really need to target the masses who are not well represented on gaming sites.

I think it's dead.  My good friend is a HUGE socom fan, but he hasn't liked any of the ones on the PS3.  Hates them actually.  And checking the reviews, neither have many others.  Socom 4 with a 6.9 avg (terrible for a game), Confrontation with a 6.3 avg... and one barely above a million, and the other well under... that's the sign of a series dying.  I'm sure they lost money on both of them, what with everything that goes into a game like that.  But it's a classic case of what I was saying before about budget cuts.  I don't know if that's what happened to the Socom series... but it sure seems like it.  Like production $ or time was cut during the making of them but they just crapped them out anyway.

If Sony were smart, they would cut it off instead of throwing more money at it.  I mean shoot, they are supposedly selling the PS3 at a small profit now and their division STILL lost that much?  I gotta think a lot of that is for software, not just hardware like the PSP and PS3 etc

It ain't dead, just stupid developers making stupid decisions. If the developers stuck to the classic Socom core and made a good game, it would be successful.

like some others said, Sony doesn't need to stop producing titles, but advertise them better, just do what MS does: shove it down our throats until we except it :p

Better yet, get the eff out of the gaming industry altogether with your lol $2.8 billion loss for the 2011 3rd quarter. No one is buying Uncharted compared to those who are buying Grand Theft Auto, Nintendo 1st Party franchises, Halo, and Activision-Blizzard games. Seriously Sony, the writing is on the wall. You are done. Your television business is a failure, the PS3 making 2nd place this gen will be a pyrrhic victory, and your music...LOL.

Anyone want to take bets on when Sony will enter bankruptcy? How many more $2.8 billion 3rd quarter losses can Sony endure?

They've lost their fan base for Socom.  It isn't coming back anytime soon when you crap out 2 bad games in a row over the span of what, 5 years?  Not to mention that many of the Socom fans haven't even played these two newer ones in longer than that.  The sales show the truth.  Like someone said, Sony can't listen to its hardcore fans on gaming websites like they have been.  They need to start making intelligent BUSINESS decisions or they won't be around for much longer to make ANY games, good or bad.  Think about it, the Socom developers made mistakes and put out crappy games that ruined the franchise.  My friend got a PS3 to play the new Socoms on.  He won't be getting a PS4 and making the same mistake.   If anything, he would get a PS4 for whatever library it happens to have, or features... but not because of Socom anymore.  That ship has sailed.  And judging by the sales, it has for most of its fans.
