Wii Fit will sell big, but people using its numbers over the HOLIDAY PERIOD as evidence for it selling big all year round is stupid.

I can see who it will attract, and I think it will get alot of sales (not 15 million like people are predicting), but whether or not people actually use it is another matter but in this situation all people care about are sales and not product useage.

Im much happier paying my £25 a month to go to the gym three/four times a week than buy Wii Fit. You can go out and buy balance boards and instruction DVD's, but I dont see many people doing that to be honest. Maybe in the mid 90's, but I havent seen it since then.

People claiming WiiFit constitutes the same amount of exercise as..well...actual exercise should spend 2 hours at a gym. If WiiFit has me sweating all over after 2 hours Ill stand corrected, but I dont see it happening.

Using holiday sales numbers will make any product look good. But even in the best month of the year, in a country where people go nuts over such things; 2nd week sales were only about half of 1st week sales, and 4th week sales have been roughly half that again. This is one of the reasons I think it won't do well, especially in slower months. And the price is another issue, the price is the Wii's best card on hand any way you spin it, and purchasing a very expensive game (it is expensive) for a cheap console makes little sense even to casuals.

I'm not entirely opposed to the concept of WiiFit, but aside from push-up's, I haven't seen a single exercise I'd recommend for getting into any kind of shape. Someone mentioned jogging; tell you what: make an obese American jog on his hard living room floor for a few weeks, then send him to a physical therapist and a chiropractor and have them tell you how good that idea was. Trust me, I'm a heavy man myself (nearing 125 kilo's) and I get pains in my body if I run on hard surfaces. I'd not recommend jogging on any hard surface actually, regardless of weight.

So, like I said; the idea itself is good, but this will be no revolution neither for the fitness nor gaming bussiness. Feel free to think so however, but I won't.

You do realize it sold out every shipment Mummel, meaning the only reason it declined in sales ever was because there was no more Wii fit's to sell

I'll let you in on a secret...companies can't sell what they don't have

Fantastic insight, let's wait for the slow months before declaring sensations and revolutions, shall we? The test of time is the only one worth noting imo. The only reason no one calls bs on your predictions is that they're so far into the future, you probably won't even be on Vgchartz on the day(s) of reckoning. Safe bets, in other words, why no end of '08 predictions?

If one (or all) of mine fail, I'll gladly munch on a truckload of crow, I'm not seeing you as that type of guy, really.

Dude, 2010 is only a couple of years away, i'll still be here, same with my 2015 prediction, why would I leave, and I did make a 2008 prediction, Wii over 50% of the market

Also Wii fit like Wii play and Wii sports will be a continuous seller over the next 10 years once supply is upped, basically having a permanent spot in the top 50, and usually in the top 20

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

From every report I've heard, Rocket, Wii Fit is a serious workout and can really kick people's ass. Have you heard differently? Because I've heard anecdotal reports from 4-5 people and ALL of them agreed that it can give you a workout.

But yeah, I don't mean to make this harder for you, because I agree, it's tough attacking one of Nintendo's major franchises here. From what I've heard, it may or may not be fun, but it's definitely exercise.

I've heard the same, Bod. From people who think a bit of cardio is a workout. I admit that I'm not in the greatest shape but if I can turn and twist enough, I can do it.

Either way, that's not my real point. My point lies in that I don't think Westerners will pay $350+ for a workout "machine" they can't find readily and that Wii Fit will suffer from it and ultimately not sell well in the Western world because it requires multiple devices that might not be purchased at the same time.

There is a lot to be said about exercise equipment and impulse purchases. The Wii and Wii Fit do not exactly squeeze into either category.

This is a reasonable argument, Rocket, and I was trying hard not to discredit it. I only wanted to confront one of your talking points, not all of them. I don't necessarily disagree with anything else you said.

It is a good point, but that's probably why WiiFit is now listed as coming TBA 2008.  They want to make sure they have adequate supply for the demand they'll create first.

I figured the delay was just to engineer a bigger, stronger balance board to compensate a 350 lb American's size 14 foot!

BTW, I would just like to take this time to point out how infuriating it is on this forum to challenge one of Nintendo's sacred cows. Open your eyes, just two years ago Nintendo was struggling to gain marketshare. Not everything they have done since then is going to break every record known to the industry.

Like I keep saying, let's be realistic. If someone wants to challenge my predictions on merit, go ahead. Just stop living in the euphoria of Nintendomination.

It really is no use Rocket, you wouldn't believe how many discussions of the same caliber I've had in here. If you think beating sacred cows in India is bad; try Vgchartz'...

So what would you 2 like people to do, change their opinions because they are part of the majority? Also if you are both confident in your predictions then you can rub it in the face of half the site's members when they come off.

My opinion is that WiiFit has a great chance of breaking 10 mill and could possibly go on to be a 15-20mill+ seller depending on how well the actual console sells throughout the gen.

@ Rocketpig - look at Nintendogs and Brain Training for DS. They are aimed at completely different markets yet have sold 17 & 11(20 if you include the sequel) million respectively on a 65 mill userbase. Incidentally WiiFit will probably have a much bigger impact on your fitness than Brain Training has on your mental faculties.

P.S. I'm perfectly aware that you 2 could be right and I could be wrong, I'm not dismissing your opinions as garbage just because I favour N.

I think what we'd like, is for people to have both feet on their ground and keep their head out of the sky when making predictions no matter how firmly they believe in a product. I'm sure you wish the same, you seem like a level-headed chap!

I see what you're saying but at the end of the day many could see your predictions as unreasonably pesimistic even though they're your honest opinions. SMG for example is pretty much gauranteed to smash your <7 mill prediction but that doesn't mean to say that you showed bias in your assessment.

Grow up and stop trolling.

@Biggerboat - How is SMG going to sell more than 7 million? Those casuals already have the Wii Sports, they're not going to buy something like SMG. Right?

Do you consider Yoga exercise?  Because there are a lot of people that do and Wii Fit includes Yoga poses...I'm not going to argue what you consider exercise, because thats your opinion and you're free to believe anything you like, but dismissing Wii Fit as an exercise tool is saying that other peoples opinions mean nothing.

The question of whether or not the Wii Fit is an exercise machine depends on your definition of exercise. Which I imagine can vary. (Marathon runners and their trainers may feel that body building with weights is good for you, but without the heartrate high enough, substained long enough, not exercise.)

But as far as I know, N. isn't saying it is an exercise machine. As far as I know, it's being treated more like Brain Age, where that game stimulates your memory... then lets others make the more fantastic claims for it. It's Wii *FIT*. As I understand, toning by stretching, yoga, balance, etc. As well as fun games.

But aren't all games like this in their way? That is, none really teach you how to be an expert fighter, general, race car driver, pro football coach, dog trainer, but all give you a bit of the feeling of that (well, the better games) and are fun. WiiFit won't make the majority of us thinner, completely healthy etc. but it will be close enough of that feeling to sell well, IMO.

Torturing the numbers.  Hear them scream.
