Krom is pretty much guaranteed as a character in SSB4 I think. Either alongside Marth and Ike or replacing Ike.

He'd be replacing Ike.

Any word on if this customizable character is a Lord?

It's probably a lot like the "My Unit" of Fire Emblem 12. I haven't played it yet, but fom what I gather the male one was mostly a less interesting version of Ike, but definitely a lord. The female unit was Eirika. The personality was somewhat changeable, but rather little.

I'd guess there's going to be a lot more to the unit this time around, though, as it's a full fleshed game (rather than a remake), and it's their second time around with one.

Krom seems rather odd, doesn't he? He's a blue-haired lord, the fourth so far in the series. He uses swords, which every lord has so far. He wields the "Sealed Sword Falchion", which is a mix of the Marth and Roy/Eliwood weapons, and he's a prince, which every lord apart from the Radiant ones have been. It's like he's a compilation of all the previous FE1-FE8 lords.

Well, Hector was definitely a Lord, and he was an axe man.

Point is I want another Axe Lord. Fire or Lightning support, either is fine.

Well, you can make the "My Unit" into an Axe wielder, so I suppose there's that.

The problem with an Axe Lord is that the lord should be a more powerful character than the other characters. Him being weaker, like for instance Roy in FE6 was, just makes things a bit tedious and annoying.

A Sword lord isn't too hard to balance. He'll have decent durability, won't get doubled by enemies, and will dish out decent damage. If you get RNG screwed with a Sword lord that would usually double enemies, but not doesn't, he's still decently durable.

An Axe user is far harder to balance. If he's too slow, he'll be doubled by enemies. If he's too fast, he'll double enemies, while dealing incredibly much damage with each hit. Similarly, a high-levelled Axe lord might get such a high defence he'll barely take any damage at all from enemies. Hector suffered from both of these problems, being a brilliant unit throughout the entire game.

Essentially, a powerful, slow, high defence user can trivialise the game, a faster, lower damage and lower defence unit really can't. Thus, making an Axe Lord is a lot riskier and tougher to balance than a Sword one.

The only thing I am thinking about right now is a European release of this game which hopefully happens. Everything else doesn't really matter at this point.

What about it playing like Sacred Stones?  I don't mind it too much since I get to level up characters that usually get left behind.  So it allows me to have more play variation within a single game.

I also like the new customize the other main character.  Should make it pretty interesting.

The art seems too generically anime, though the graphics themselves seem to have improved over 9 & 10. I was aware of dual battle system, and it sounds intriguing, though honestly i'm not sure how i feel about being able to create my own class. I'd probably have to consult a guide first, just to figure out what kind of team "My Lord" is going to be stuck with. If i get reasonably full choice of "normal" classes (that is, say, cavalry, armor, myrmidon, sage, healer, soldier, archer), then you would want to try to balance

Or is the customization strictly in appearance and not in skillset?

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

The art has always been according to generic anime styles of the time.

I'm sure the team will be nicely balanced regardless. I think the My Lord here will probably be able to fit no matter what you do with them.

Everything sounds awesome- except for the 3d models. I demand nintendo bring back the awesome sprite work of FF6-8!

Still holding out hope for a hand-drawn Wii U Fire Emblem, but honeslty at this fidelity 3D models are a lot cheaper (probably).

Blazblue does it and Arksystems has a lot less money to work with then nintendo. I accept no excuses.

It is easier to do hand drawn stuff with a fighting game where the sprites are limited, compared to a SRPG where you are bound to have a lot more characters and at times all occupying the screen at the same time.

The field wouldn't really be a problem, since Fire Emblem field portrayals are always really, really simplistic.

Now the battles

Aw yeah, that shit would be nice.

Awful lot of different classes ot have to render, though.

i was going to mention that. i'd like to see Marth gone, Roy come back, keep ike, and bring Krom in.

Distinctly unlikely. Marth is the mainstay, the first Lord, and they're not going to get rid of him. Ike was there as a form of cross-promotion for Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. If Krom is in, it will be in place of Ike, not in addition to him.

Hector of course will be included after overwhelming fan demand.
