Has FFXIII-2 Bombed Worldwide?

Yes, especially in Japan 73 26.45%

Yes, especially in the West 34 12.32%

No, the sales are great 169 61.23%

Total:276

from a sales perspective: Not a sales bomb. FF fans keep buying every installment of the series.
from a critical game reviewers perspective. Yes, Final Fantasy XIII-2 was a disappointing game. Both FFXIII and FFXIII-2 use ATB.

ATB is still present in FFXIII / FXIII-2

OT: I don't see how it bombed. Its going to get anywhere between 2-5 million when its all said and done. Thats a money maker for a game of this kind.

I do agree with you, the game has not bombed, based on the fact they would have used existing character models, adapted environments etc, the game would have probably made even more money then the first even with less sales. It certainly wasn't as a successful of a sequal as FFX-2 though.

I think what morenoingrato was trying to say is they need to more away from what they think would appeal to Western Market,  similaries between western RPGs, and move back to a more traditional style of play, the type of gameplay that won us all over in the first place with FF6 and 7. Self contained battles, a free and clever leveing up system, and open world map with airship. Things we consider Final Fantasy games aspects are seemingly missing from FF games.

They need to stop making sequals and concentrate on making main games series. We have both FFXIII and XIV released yet no XV announced, are wel going to have to wait 5 years for that too?  What happened to the game a year we had? FFVIII in 1999, FFIX in 2000, FFX in 2001, FFXI 2002.

Hmm, pie.

Big and deserving bomba, though they will have the chance of redeeming themselves with Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

Lemme get this straight: FFXIII-2 is the 4th highest selling PS3 game in Japan, beaten only by FFXIII, RE5 and MGS4. Yet the game is a flop in Japan? I guess all JRPG's other than FFXIII are flops in Japan then.

After only one week of release outside Japan (and a few other Asian markets) it's sold over 1.5 million globally on PS3 alone. Making it the 81st ranked game out of all PS3 games ever released (over 2500). Yet it's a global flop?

It's the 17th ranked FF game across all platforms, out of a total of 50. So the PS3 version is well into the top half of all FF titles already.

I think PS3 version it will crawl along to 2.5 million in total. That will put it in the top 10 of all FF games.

Yes S-E screwed up with the Xbox audience with FFXIII, and they likely will never get a large fanbase there because of it. But even so adding 360 and PS3 sales of the game it should top 3 million.

I think, considering the bad taste FFXIII left in a lot of FF Fans' mouths XIII-2's sales have not been too shabby, and it may even have helped to rehabilitate the series somewhat.

I think if vsXIII isn't the next FF game to come out, and if it isn't a very good to excellent FF game then SE might have something to worry about.

Sad, really. The last thing Japan needs is another bomb.

Not a sales bomb... just a dying series that is less and less relevant.

The "final" fantasy cant be too far away thankfully...

You're wrong and you know it.

Using VGChartz numbers, Final Fantasy XIII has sold over 6.5 Million units. On the PS3, talking single platform releases here... FFXIII has only been beaten by the 360 SKU of Skyrim this generation when talking console RPGs.

Final Fantasy XIII on the PS3 alone sold more than Mass Effect 2 PS360 combined, Fable 3 and Fable 2.

Final Fantasy XIII on PS3 and 360 combined has sold more than Fallout 3 PS360, Fallout New Vegas PS360 and Oblivion PS360.

I don't see how anyone can say Final Fantasy is a dying series because a sequel to a poorly-recieved game has sold 2 Million units after a Week of being on sale in Western markets. When the next full scale Final Fantasy launches and THEN sales see significant drops... Then say it's dying.

This also reminds me about us arguing about ME2 PS3 sales ages ago, where you said it wouldn't reach a Million. It's sitting at 920k without PSN sales. It's gonna be close.

When even sequel to hated mainline Final Fantasy does this great in the west the ''final'' fantasy is still pretty damn far away. 1.8 million first week (Japan inclued) is still more than most  games considered succesfull sell in their lifetime. Let's wait next mainline game before judging if series is dying (btw XIII has sold more than XII...)

edit. Damn. Carl2291 was quicker.

No lol

the series isn't dying it's just that gamers now have more options in rpg's so it's natural to see drop in sales!
