"The market for console game is doing well in Belgium

09/01/2008 10:59

Belgian Consumers bought last year 340,000 game consoles and 294,000 pocket versions of these devices. A third of that amount has been achieved in the last six weeks of the year, according to data from consulting firm GfK De Morgens which was echoed Wednesday.

The Playstation 3 is the most popular, followed by Nintendo Wii console, the PlayStation 2, which is entering its eighth year of existence, and finally 360. Last year, it has sold 4.16 million Console games, or nearly one million more than in 2006. The games on the PC are hand down: 1, 85 million in 2006, it rose to 1.82 million last year. (GFR)"

Interesting, another good market for the PS3 .Small market,in any case.

Good I suppose. It would be nice to see how much each console has sold though.

The PS3 performs very well for the Benelux. With regard to the PS2, the console crossed the 2 million mark for the Benelux last year.

PS3 vs 360 sales

looks like ps3 is winning the smaller markets

i'm from belgium, it's true ps3 sold well here... but it's cause of the mark "sony" and "playstation"...

xbox360 done well too, i have some friend who have one...:)

wii... don't know, never see one in the fnac of louvain la neuve... always sold out...

It would be nice to see some more data from "Other Europe". Vgchartz give for this region sales of 1.24 mln of home consoles (PS2/PS3, X360 and Wii) and 1.00 mln for handhelds (PSP, DS and GBA). This gives Belgium 27% market share for home consoles and 29% for handhelds. Quite high when "Other Europe" also consists of other rich countries like Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland (with 32 mln of people vs 10 mln of people in Belgium) and not so rich (not poor also) but very populous (around 300 mln) Eastern Europe.

Wii could have done better, every time i go to Fnac or Media Markt, they are nowhere to be found... it's like a perpetual sold-out situation...

But i think NOE doesn't pay attention to our country, it's easier for them to deliver more Wii's and do more promotion in France, UK and Germany, the three biggest european markets...

and an ugly drawing in 1080p will stay ugly forever..."

i actually have a feeling the netherlands is the other way around (1. wii 2. x360 3.ps3)

in anyway, everythings overtracked =P

@ Neos

I strongly doubt the 360 sells better in the Netherlands, based on the rate I saw PS3 units disappearing from Media Markt pallets compared to the 360 around christmas and based on research data, the PS3 was even more preferred amongst Dutch kids than the Wii for Christmas.
