Forums - Gaming Discussion - Do You Remember When/How You Became A Gamer?

25 years ago, my dad bought a Tandy TRS-80 CoCo 2. I played ALF on it.

The rest is history.

Dune on megadrive, instead of switching it off like I usually did when I went out with my parents, I left it on the whole evening just so I can carry on the game when I come back.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

I think I've always been a gamer... Around 1986, my father won a console, I think it was a colecovision, and so I started playing with him and my big brother (I was 3 !). I also played some Atari and Commodore with family's friends and then moved on to Sega master system, a neighbour's NES and quite a lot of arcade gaming (sweet memories !) I started playing more "seriously" (I chose my own games, read magazines etc) with the original playstation and later with the amazing late 90's early 2000's on the PC. With the current generation I have become slightly more casual (aaaargl) as I know have a job and therefore less time for games. Actually, I sometimes feel that I spend more time reading stuff about games than actually playing them (curse you, internet !) but at least I'm educating my nephews to turn them into "real" gamers ^_^

When I was about 6 or 7, playing Need For Speed on the 3DO. Then when I was 7 or 8 we got Playstation and I played things like the NHL series and Crash Bandicoot a lot.

No idea. I like to think that Mario is my real father.  One day, he'll knock at my door and say, "Son, I'm sorry I left you.  I just want you to know.......I'm proud of you.  Now let's go save the Princess.....TOGETHER!"  And when that happens, I'm outta here, losers!

My kid--I spent hours playing Gamecube and PS2 with her in my lap since she was a few days old. She's stand in front of the TV while I played Space Channel 5 or flap her arms like crazy when I pulled the squids tentacles in Super Mario Sunshine. By the time we double teamed Super Mario Galaxy, she was a pro. 10 year old and a master of Resident Evil 5, Red Dead Redemption, Little Big Planet, and dozens of other games. She makes this old man proud!

When the zombie apocalypse happens, you'll wish more parents had trained their kids!

I first started gaming on my Aunt's Atari 2600. I remember playing ET, Space Invaders, Tarzan, etc... She ended up giving it to me after a few months because I was better at all the games. After that it was on! I tried to get every game and every console from then on. I remember being so devastated when I realized I couldn't afford a Neo Geo and how silly I felt when my friends questioned why I wanted an Atari Jaguar.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Wrong, more clueless people = more time for me to escape while they get eaten :3

It was either '89 or '90 and the game was Centipede for the Atari 2600, good times.
