The name "Versus" has been known for so long now they're probably better off dropping the XIII tag (as you say, it has no real link with FFXIII) and just calling it Final Fantasy: Versus.

They all share the same FNC mythology. it could be the world is FF13 Versus is in reality the world of Pluse many thousands of years before the remaining humans left for Cocoon. this could explain plot points in both games. for example the War of Transgression could be something important in FF Versus mentioned breifly in FF13. we simply dont know. it might not be Pluse. it could be the 'Invisible World' alluded to in FF13. the point is that they are part of the same continuinty in someway,which is why Square have linked them.

Considerring the mythology is barely touched upon in XIII I'd say these links are tenuous at best. They can still have the game's linked without the XIII tag.

yeah, I think that's a good thing. Because the length of title, is too long, anyways. And not to mention, Final Fantasy is one of the most contradictory names a videogame franchise has.
