Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox 720 'will support Blu-ray, might not play used games' - report

Don't know if anyone's seen this: http://kotaku.com/5879202/sources-the-next-xbox-will-play-blu+ray-may-not-play-used-games-and-will-introduce-kinect-2

apparently the Xbox720 might be as strong as 8 times the 360...

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

This doesn't even have anything remotely to do with Xbox, yet I'm called Sony fan. Nice going.

updated: 14.01.2012

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

Please let the used games thing not be true...or at least have a way so you can borrow and lend games to your friends.

Can you imagine how horrified the CEO's at Gamestop would be about something like this?

I would imagine that they would not really care. Gamestop is already expanding and heavily pushing digital content, tablets, used idevice sales to combat this. Even if they ever did have to close up shop they would probably say "well, we had a good run." Of course they are all millionaires ... would suck for me and other part timers. I enjoy my job there as a nice diversion from college. I suppose I will have moved on by the time Gamestop goes under or restructures itself to the supposed digitial market of the future. Some of my friends, however, that did not go the college route will have to find something else ... not easy now, and I doubt anything they find will be as enjoyable.

Part of me doubts this rumor though. People will not tolerate this since so many rely on used games just to even make video games as a hobby economically viable for them. They get away with this crap on PC because it is a different market, but I don't see this working on consoles.

I guess they are really trying to push the download only option so that they don't have to give royalties to sony for blu-ray. That's what would make sense since they are already pushing the users get adjusted to paying small micro transactions already. If people buy it, then it's the consumers fault. I would be pissed myself but I didn't think I would buy this console anyway.

If the part about not playing used games is true then it would mean some big changes. how would companies like, Gamefly rent out games, because all their games would be considered "used", unless they were given special copies that could be used on multiple consoles.

Having a console that couldn't play used games would be an interesting financial strategy, but I could see it creating a lot of headaches.

I'm not so sure how I feel about the smaller controller. The reason I like the Xbox 360 controller better than PS3 is that it fits my hands much better. If true I'm sure they would allow use of Xbox 360 controlers, because too many gamers like the feel of it too much.

Poor Sony! They are in the gutter hardcore money-wise, and their competitor would worry about giving them a few dimes by being part of a consortium that leads blu-ray. I really don't think Microsoft cares  about that to be totally honest, rather maybe they don't want the extra expenditure, but I don't think they care that much if it falls into Sony's hands. They aren't that hostile you know! Sony uses Windows for its laptops, and MS gets cash off every android phone sold. They can't be that crummy! :S

Sounds dodgy, especially coming from Kotaku. I'd not be surprised if they made used game support exclusive to Xbox Live Gold, though!

Kotaku is a reliable site. Remember the Wii U rumors? IGN and Kotaku both had inside sources with info on it. It turned out to be true.

Now the used games thing sounds crazy. They're probably just experimenting with it.

Kotaku is a total clownboat. And so are you.

Apart from the Blu-Ray bit (which seems obvious to me as being likely) the rest sounds well dodgy IMHO.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
