No, Square owns it. It's like with Halo and Bungie. Bungie developed the game, but M$ owns the IP, so anything Halo related will only be on an Xbox.
SE owns the KH IP, Disney did nothing but give consent to use their characters. SE did everything money and development related. So in the end, it's SE that decides where the game goes |
You are misinformed. Allow me to enlighten you. ^_^ Each piece of evidence that follows is in fact definitive proof that Disney owns everything in Kingdom Hearts not directly related to Final Fantasy. Piece of evidence #1. Taken directly from Kingdom Hearts 2's website:
© Disney Enterprises, Inc. Developed by SQUARE ENIX. © Disney. Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas © Touchstone Pictures. Developed by SQUARE ENIX. Characters from FINAL FANTASY video game series: © 1990, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2005 Square Enix Co., Ltd. All Rights Reserved. SQUARE ENIX and the SQUARE ENIX logo are trademarks of Square Enix Co., Ltd. Notice the primary trademark is Disney Enterprises, Inc. After that, Square is credited with development, but given no trademarks for anything other than "Characters from FINAL FANTASY"" and their logos. Piece of evidence #2. Taken from here: http://www.gaming-age.com/cgi-bin/previews/preview.pl?sys=ps2&game=kingdomhearts
"Four new DISNEY main characters make their debut in KINGDOM HEARTS: Sora, Riku, Kairi and the Heartless." That's right. Every new character made in the game is property of Disney. Piece of Evidence #3. Taken from Gamerankings/Wikipedia.
Ever heard of a game named Kingdom Hearts Mobile? Well whether you have or not, it was a Kingdom Hearts game published by Disney and developed by Superscape with no involvement by Square Enix. How did Disney get around this? They simply didn't include FF characters. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_Hearts_%28series%29#V_CAST That's right. Disney can make Kingdom Hearts without Square Enix at all if they so choose.

OK, I'll take that. I was indeed misinformed. But a Disney alone made KH would go down the drain (just look at your example with KH: Mobile). If that's what you want, w/e. However, I, on the other hand, want Sqaure Enix to have a part in the game because they've proven to make this game work well, and Nomura has AMAZING ideas, whereas, what in the world DID Disney do for Mobile, in regards to the KH story? Anyway, in the case of SE involvement, they will be developing AND publishing. And because of that, they will choose where the game goes.
The only way I see a KH Wii is if it IS a Disney only game. But what is KH without it's Final Fantasy elements? SE owns the rights to the battle system. That kills gameplay, unless Disney can come up with something good. SE owns the FF characters, so that gets rid of the "mix" of Disney and Square, which was the original intent of the game. So what's the purpose then? And worst of all, are Sora, Riku, and Kairi going to move? And if Roxas is involved anymore, will he just live in oblivion? Because SE owns the Destiny Islands and Twilight Town.
Sorry to rant, but if the reason you guys think KH will be Wii-ified is because "Disney can simply avoid SE", then your really just asking for a half made game.
