Forums - PC Discussion - PSU recommendations

My power supply is unstable (according to my BIOS and pretty much everything else) If you must know, it's a Kentek 1050 Watt that I got for Christmas. I need a new one because this one is terrible.

Recommendations? It has to power a Phenom II X6 and a Radeon HD 6850 so somewhere in the neighborhood of 600watts. I was thinking Corsair. What do you think?

And get a PSU with some decent headroom for your system, you don't really want to have to upgrade your PSU if you want to upgrade in the future, plus you tend to lose effeciency and reliability as you get near 100% load.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

First thing about PSU. Never buy unknown brand, usually with massive Wattage ratings. The chance of it being spotty and frying your stuff is pretty high.

Go with the more common trusted brands.

(I know, kinda late but!)

Two rules of thumb:

1) the heavier the PSU, the better it is (no, really!)
2) get 80+ certified PSUs - silver will do, but if you can afford gold, go for it

You can also use a PSU calculator to figure out how much power you really need:

As for me, I use a Silverstone 850W PSU with modular cables and 80+ silver rating. Can't remember the exact model off the top of my head, but I'm running a 2500K with crossfired 6950s plus a GT440 for PhysX and the rig has never hung on me playing either Battlefield 3 or Arkham Asylum.

Happy hunting!

It's still appreciated :)
