Forums - Sales Discussion - At what price would YOU buy a PS3?

I bought a console in UK on launch day £425 ($850) The actually price of the package i bought (ps3 + 3 games + HDMI cable) £525 = $1,050 So thats how much id pay :D

But at the moment i can understand no one wants to pay all that money for the lack of games it has atm, this time next year with some good games people may be more willing to ;)

Although it may all come at once, price drop and good games hehe

I'd buy one at the price it's at, that's not what I have against the system. I own a Wii, and I own a 360, and so far the only games I've wanted on the ps3 are out on my 360. The only exclusives I'm interested in are FF and White Night Story. I don't like realistic racers or shooters that much so motor storm and Resistance don't get me, I didn't buy Gears of War, and have no plans on buying Forza 2 so GT won't interest me either. Lair I honestly don't like Facter 5 games, it's a shame because they are gorgoues, I just think they are to hard and they are always flying games which I'm never good at. Rachet and Clank and Uncharted, Little Big planet, and home all look good, and if I buy one they'd be a big part of the reason. But honestly I only have so much time to play games and with two systems with plenty to offer me already I don't know if it's worth buying a third console. Besides most of the great third party stuff more so then last gen is being shard on the 360 this time around so it doesn't have the same appeal as the ps2 did. But we'll see. There are a few sequels that if made and are exclusive to the ps3 I will buy a ps3 with no questions asked formost being shenmue 3, but for now most of those type of games are on my other systems.

I'd pay $600, if there were any good exclusive games. I'm just waiting to see all of this processing power actually be used by a game. At this point, I think the Blu-ray is a better deal then the PS3.

I'd pay what I paid, which is 599.99 USD.   I haven't regretted it.

The day i will see an early PS3 adopter saying "Sony tricked me, i regret having paid such a price" will be the end of time ...

IMO, if 3rd party developers acceptance towards Xbox360 continues, i will buy the first of the two that ill reach the 300€ mark. (given there are games worth it)

I refuse to buy any console until it is in the $199-$299 range ...

I only am interested in these devices as gaming machines so if they're pushing other features (DVD playback, Home Theater Extender, etc.) at a higher price they're only limiting the appeal of the device for me.

Also at $99 I will buy pretty much any system ...

Just courious. You would buy a BluRay player for your TV for 800$ and buy a PS3 for 300$, but you wouldnt buy a PS3 WITH BluRay player for 600$? The Wii can surf the web. Sell it quick! It multi-tasks!

Yeah, but if a BR player broke, I'd be out a BR player while it gets fixed or a cheaper PS3.  as it stands, if the BR drive on ps3 breaks, I'd be out a game system and a BR player. btw, the current going price for BR player is ~$500.  This is the reason I don't buy a TV/DVD player either.

As for price of a PS3.  At $400-$450, I'd consider it if games I'm interested in is out for it.  At $300, I'd buy it for a BR player while I wait for games.

I'd pay $400 if blu-ray wins and $200 if blu-ray loses.

Right now it would have to drop close to the pS2 price because it currently has nothing new at all to offer me.

I find it amazing how people in this thread attempt to justify their purchase based on multi-media options that have no bearing on games - this is a VIDEOGAME CONSOLE, RIGHT?!?!?!? Who the hell cares whether you can run Office on it, watch movies, do your laundry with it... ...and the one area that the PS3 lacks the greatest in, is the area that should be first and foremost on any videogame console - GAMES!!!!! Good God, what is wrong with you people? You're willing to shell out $600 for the 'possibility' of games? Why not actually wait for the games that matter to you and THEN purchase a console? Who knows - you might even save $100 in the process when the price is reduced... No way - I wouldn't be caught dead purchasing a PS3 at this time. And with every day that passes, and another former Sony exclusive winds up on a rival console, it's one less reason for me to EVER plunk down the cash on that console. I'll hold my breath on MGS4 - let's see where that game winds up and how good it actually is. And let's see what the PS3 actually costs at the time that game finally comes out - maybe it'll motivate me to finally get a PS3... ...but still, not at $600 for one game - they better do ALOT better than that.

Good post, people seem too eager to say that the Sony is a 'media hub' as though it is some sort of freebie, at $300 it probably would be, but at $600 it is just too costly for a games console, never mind a half arsed media hub.

It's interesting that on the ps3forums.com site, there seem to be more topics about Folding@Home than games, and there seems to be a justification of buying a PS3 that 'at least it's curing diseases'!

I've never paid more than £200 for a games console (I'm a casual gamer), and it's unlikely that I will break this tradition any time soon, so I twill be waiting quite a long time for the PS3 to halve in price before I even consider it.

While the price is a major concern, games are whats most important. There would have to be a good balance between the two for me to purchase a PS3. If the PS3 were say $300 and a good amount of games that I wanted that I couldn't purchase for my 360, I'd pick one up. Of course since, I live with my brother and he already has a PS3. I don't see myself buying PS3 unless its about $150 as long as we are living in the same residence. My brother and I work different schedules. I have total access to his PS3 and he has total access to my 360 and Wii. When I get home from work, my brother is at work. When he gets home from work, I'm usually in bed or about to go to bed.
