Thing is, Sony IS pushing something on me. They expect me to buy a Blu-Ray player when it has show little to no use for the current gen in gaming. One can attempt to argue it's use when the disc space is needed for future games...but we are no were near that level today, so the point is moot.

I'm about gaming. If Sony really was interested in me as a gamer, and not someone building their chances at winning the format war, they would have let me buy a PS3 without the Blu-Ray. As I've stated before, obviously Blu-Ray was more important to Sony than gaming as a whole.

... no need to argue anything.

Kojima will need a dual layer 50 gig BR disk for MGS4, thats a FACT.

same way you are crying about BR, people pissed and whined about PS2s dvd and PS1s cd..... then reality kicked in and proved Sony made the right choice.

I can't recall people being pissed and whining about the PS2 DVD and PS1 CDs. In fact, certainly DVD could be seen as an attaction to the PS2, it was released at the 'normal' $300 console price and you got the DVD player pretty much thrown in for free. Now the PS3 is released at $600 the perception is that you are paying for the blu-ray whether you want it or not.

On a side note: When somebody says, "I can't be a fanboy, because I own ALL THREE SYSTEMS!!" Absolutely incorrect. Just because you own a Wii, 360, and PS3 doesn't mean you can't be a Sony fanboy, or a Wii fanboy. I dunno, just had to throw that out there somewhere...it bugs me.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I'm not sure what price I'd buy it; it would probably depend upon its software at the time. It won't drop lower than $500 this year, which means I probably won't buy it this year. There's a good chance I could get it once it's $400 if I see Blue Ray winning and if games like MGS4 impress the hell out of me. I think $400 could be when the PS3 really takes off, but Sony is still going to have to convince people paying the extra money is worth it.

I won't and explain why because to me it's not because it's Sony, I've played PS2 for years, have a PSP and a bunch of Sony products in my room, so you can't really say I'm a Sony hater, absolutely not!

First of all this might sound weird for those who don't interest one single bit about our mother earth and about energy costs but the power use of the console is way too much. The console uses a maximum of 380 Watts, that's almost 4 times more then my Sony Bravia TV at maximum usage, while it's on maximum power saving, so almost 9 times more then my WII and almost 10 times more then it's big brother PS2. In Europe and especially in the Netherlands governments are working on environment issues, regular light balls disappear in 2009 and we all need to use energy saving light balls from then. So therefore I think it's contra dictionary when on one hand I put my TV on maximum power saving, use energy saving light balls but buy a console which eats energy. That's one.

Second I hear these complaints about the console is getting so warm and even leaves burn marks on furniture. My father made me a nice dresser a few years ago and would die if anything happens to that. Besides if I would buy a PS3 it should be a Japanese version as I have Japanese PS / PS2 games and they look dreadful on a LCD TV with a PS2 console. I need to buy another step down converter which can be risky too.

Third of all, all the extra stuff, such as Blu Ray, for which you have to pay as well. I don't interest one single bit about Blu Ray. I've never played DVD's on my consoles as I have a DVD recorder, so what's the use of a DVD / Blu Ray playback option then? I buy a console for games, to download a few contents and to play online sometimes, but further nothing really.

Fourth, the games. I don't really see one single game that would interest me buying the console at the moment. Perhaps a FFXIII, Little Big Planet, Monster Kingdom, Africa and White Knight Story, unless they kick a Dark Chronicle 2 / Dark Cloud 3 in front of my eyes. Then you really got me start doubting. What I see is a full trend of typical based on male gamers Action games and shooters. And no I can't stand Singstar!

Then the download option. I said that I'll need a Japanese version, still no sign of Pre Paid cards and therefore for me impossible to use Japanese contents with a credit card, besides I don't like it a single bit when companies just withdraw amounts from my card.

Also the Backward compatibility and most of all the upscale updates. First updates will take place in the Summer, but how long will that take? FFXII and KH2 look like PSX games on my PS2 on the LCD TV, how long do I need to wait before I have an upscale update on the PS3 for these 2 games and yes.... they're Japanese imports. I still don't know which version of the PS3 (with the older or new chip) would be the best for me. What if I would buy the older version but better should have got the latest version or visa versa, no one has given me a straight answer about that after asking it a lot of times.

Then import. Sony Playstation Europe has made it difficult for me to order Japanese games from stores from Asia. Lik Sang no longer exists and Play Asia isn't allowed to ship any PSP or PS3 games to the European Union. Yes Asia I refuse to buy from anymore, as 2 times games got lost. And asking a third time for a refund would be suspicious so I rather not take that risk anymore. Then I'll need to check elsewhere and cost me a lot of money unless my seller from who I buy import WII, PSP and DS games from has them in stock, but she doesn't always. So therefore stores like Play Asia are my second choice.

These are reasons enough for me to say "no", not a PS3 for any lower price what so ever. Price is not even the biggest issue for me I don't say never ever as future can't be predicted, therefore I save up all my PS2 games before I really plan to sell them and regret every minute of it. I'm sure fans will blow at me that I'm talking nonsense, but as long as I'm allowed to have a personal opionion I'll stick with that!

 1. Ok. I'm gonna call you on that. I read the first 2 scentances. The PS3 will NEVER use more than 225watts.

http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/english/NEWS_EN/20061113/123458/

I'm sure you think that's still WAAY too much.

2. They dont get that hot. The air comming out of my PS3 is about 45-50c. That shouldnt burn anything unless it was made wrong. (not saying yours thing is. I'm just saying it's not hot enough to burn furniture... unless it's crappy furniture) However where you place it, and how you place it WILL make a diffrence. I keep mine out of enclousers. It keeps it cooler, and it is alot ***ALOT*** quiter... as in I cant hear it when it's out of the shelf... Yet in the shelf, I can hear it from about 10 feet.

 3. The PS3 is likely to have some of the best BluRay image quality for the next year or two. In 2 years the BluRay drive in the PS3 wont cost much more than a DVD drive in the 360. Basically it's like giving you an amazing feature for almost free. The thing you really pay for on a BluRay player and a HD-DVD player is the video chip. 1080p with AVC/h.264 needs a processor faster than the Wii has. (I dont think the Wii has enough power to do video at 1080p) (on the processor)

4. The games are lacking, but we will likely see a encanation of all of our favorite PS2 games, sooner or later.

5. If you wanna download the games, you can download from any PSN store. Just create a user and set your home store for that location. You can easily get content from the japan, hong kong, america, and diffrent european PSN stores. On any PS3. You can purchace a thing, and if you dont have enough enough on the account, it will charge you what you 'need'. So if you had 0.00$ on your account, and it cost 4.99$ They would change your Credit Card 4.99$

6. For your backwards compatability, I would expect the the japanese version/american version. (I dont know if you can play region coded PS2 games on a diffrent region PS3, I dont feel like spending 30 minutes looking that up for you. However the european version is likely to be the future of the PS3. As the Emotion chip will likely come out of the american/japanese PS3's in a a few months, and then all consoles will run the emulation. Sony just pulled it out of the PAL version to save a few dollars. Likely we will see the Emotion chip turned off in the american ones, and switch to 100% emulation.

If your not happy with the PS3's power consumption, (the 215w) I would suggest waiting 12-18months, and buy the one with the new chip die size, as it will likely use under 125w.

If you have more money than you know what to do with... http://www.off-grid.net/index.php?p=293

If you search it, there is like a 5000square foot house (huge house, mine is 865 square foot) That runs the whole house off solar/hydrogen, and plugs his car up to the hydrogen tanks, and drives it to/from work.

So he is 100% off the grid. He buys no fuel. *none*

I fly this flag in victory!

I MIGHT buy a ps3 IF blue ray wins the format war, if the price becomes sub 300 dollars and IF there are games i reallly reallly want to play. right now there is not any reason for me to buy one

I'm a shameless Sony supporter and I still plan on waiting atleast till the first price drop or about the year-year and a half mark. I did the same thing with PS2 because good RPG's took so long to get to it. Of course, it also affords me the opportunity to see how things pide out in the console wars.

But how do you get the money into your account, from your credit card? And despite I have a European credit card I can even download payable contents from the Japanse store?

What kind of consequences will it have for BC when they remove the emotion chip? Will the upscale updates also work for the PS3 consoles with the emotion chip? Eh don't need to look up, PS3 is NOT region free for PS2 / PS games, but is only region free for PS3 games. PS2 / PS games really depends on what region console you have. Therefore a Japanese version is the most suitable for me. An editor of a gamemagazine told me at first to wait for the European version but later changed his mind and said if you ever buy a PS3 you better go for the Japanese version.

My TV can only go up to 780p, so 1080p is not really important.

When it is sub $300US with some good games. Granted by the time that happens any games that I may want on ps3 may have already been moved to Wii. Except Heavenly Sword. I can't think of any other 1st/2nd party games that are Sony's that I think I might really want. I already have access to 260 whenever I wish, so 3rd parties will eventually be on 360 or Wii... so it would have to be sub $300 and have a few exclusives that I want. Bluray and its a computer are too arguements that don't make sense. For both to be really nice you would need an hdtv for the resolutions. As a computer, I am sorry, I have already priced to build an AMD 64bit dual processor machine with a lot better hardware than the ps3 for less than $600. (obviously using some pieces off of my current machine, with all new probably $800). The only reason to buy a ps3 is to play games, and for $600 it is a poor choice right now.

It would need a great killer App and promise of more first. 360 has that, so does Wii. PS3 is lacking majorly in this area.

Till then it's not worth $100 to play Lair

price isn't currently the issue for me, it's the lack of interest in the games that are on it.. i'm not saying the games are bad, they just don't interest me ...

But as far as price is concerned, i'd never purchase a gaming console for more than AU$500 (PS3 is currently AU$1000)
