'We don't care what our competitors are doing, we don't care what the wider entertainment industry is doing' If that's true, that's such a terrible way for a company to run itself

Yet, they implement HD graphics, touchscreen, more online functionality and 3D in their present and near-future devices... I smell bullcrap from Reggie.

lol with that logic they should have stayed in the NES era
Of course things need to move on without the need of them caring what others are doing. you don’t do things just because you care of what others are doing but because you want to continue evolving for your own sake
People like to twist Reggies words to make them look bad yet what he means is that they like to do things their own way.
Reggie what happened to you?!

Evolving is fine, being against tech simply because others use it is not. Perhaps they should focus more on "we implement -insert tech or feature- because" rather than "lol, -insert tech or feature here- is silly and/or not needed". It makes them look arrogant and silly (especially when they suddenly offer the same themelseves), especially Reggie gives Nintendo a bad face in my opinion.
I don't know why a lot of people seem to believe that;
A: Nintendo cannot be arrogant, after all, they make different consoles and games!
B: Nintendo are immune to mistakes and declines.
People love to use history to show how Wii tracked above the PS2, how a market leader is always followed by another market leader etc but seem to forget that points A and B are utterly and completely false according to history.
If and when MS and Sony make announcements that seem strange the reaction is mostly; "Lol, what the hell are they thinking!?" while Nintendo gets more of; "They know what they're doing, you don't get to be market leader by being an idiot". Reggie gives the air and body of the latter sentence and is percieved (rather correctly) as a somewhat arrogant know-it-all with a bad attitude and complete lack of respect for the competition.

Well when Wii came out not many had HD TV’s so it was not that big a deal for them but now people have HD TV’s so they see that it is the right time just like how they will not focus on 3D because not many do have 3D TV’s yet did implement it on 3DS because it was glassless and it is for one person at a time.
Nintendo is against tech all of a sudden because they did not implement HD? So we automatically forget what they have done in the past and the introduction of motion to gaming?
Nintendo should include every tech in the WiiU because if they don’t that means they are against it
Sure some people think because your number one this gen you will next gen as well but those are ignorant as things change. I’ve never said that so I don’t know why you bring that up. They might be on top again and they might be last who knows. You can ask Pachter and whatever he says it will be the opposite
Reggie has been saying things with a bad tone that I don’t like either but it is far less than what others say. But what he says here I don’t see it the way you do I see it more like “you guys should know by now that we do things our way so stop asking us if we will do what others are doing”. But if you dislike someone you would translate that to a more negative understanding of what he said.

The reason I bring those points up is simply to illustarte why a lot of people don't like Reggie, Reggie's biggest fans are often those who go by those points.
I would never accuse you of thinking this way, you've been here a loooong time and I know you to be among the most sensible users in here.
Anyways, like I said; its fine for Nintendo to include tech but it sounds stupid when they claim that its plain unneccessary and then turn around and off it themselves. Kind of like MS' early gen antics with the "Blu-ray is stupid, this is not a video machine", WHAM; HD-DVD add-on. "The Core is a good idea, you don't need a harddrive", WHAM; you do need a harddrive and the Core was phased out. Integrated wi-fi? "Bullshit." WHAM etc.
I appreciate that Reggie wants to appear confident and speak well for his company but he could do with a small dose of humility and appreciation towards the competition and, last but not least, his employers in Japan whose tone is often very different and a lot more meek (if not one hundred present clever at all times, "online is superfluous" and such things speak against them).
