Should there be a mandatory fat camp for morbidly obese?

I was just wondering what VGC felt about forcing fat people into a fat camp.  I am mainly talking about morbidly obese people or people at least 80-100+ overweight.  I believe obesity is the greatest health problem in the USA (obviously so).  Now, obesity cost the healthcare system more than smokers or pretty much any other group. Being fat makes any health issue that arises more difficult and costly.

I know some of you will bulk at my pretty outlandish proposal but I believe that most morbidly obese need more motivation considering most are content on being obese (or don't take the necessary steps to change their lifestyle).  While I am usually against anything that is mandatory by the government (forcing people to do something) I believe this to be an instance where intervention is probably needed.  We could correct the real problem which is what food we eat, how we grow it, and how much physical activity we partake in.  However, that would be just too hard for a simple nation like USA to solve.  Instead, we will send them off to weight reduction camp for those that fall through the cracks (or let me put it this way... don't fall through the cracks).  Might as well have them rebuild USA's crumbling infrastructure.

PS. For those that think this would take a long time for them to get out of fat camp let me just say that I have lost over 55 lbs in less than 4 months (since starting work again, stop drinking alcohol, eating fruits and veggies, less meat and cheese, hell I haven't even really worked out that much besides walking and standing/walking 50+ hours a week during work (not really allowed to sit down during work))  Now, I am almost back down to my normal size (which is 6'2" and 220 lbs).

Anyways, let me just leave you with clips of one of my favorite movies when I was young.... HEAVYWEIGHTS!!

Yes. Any guy who is 100+ pounds overweight has a serious, serious problem and isn't going to be able to tackle it by himself. Ditto for any woman who is 5+ pounds overweight.

most fat people are less of a burden on the health care system since they die way earlier.

Should we ban people from smoking?

No. Nor do I think they should be supported in any way by the government for the costs of their medical bills. If they want to be fat, that's fine by me. But don't make me pay for it. You can be fat on your own money.

As it stands now, for those who are accepting government money, sure. It seems to me like if they're going to be using my money to help them out, they should have to abide by my conditions for it. Of course, I don't have any say in where that money goes anyway. (Well, I do technically, but a very, very small and indirect one).

EDIT: The problem with that, is that I'd still be paying for them to go to this camp. To be perfectly clear, I couldn't care less if people want to be morbidly obese. It's their choice. But I don't want any part in that. Any part. Meaning I don't want any of my money going to them unless I decide to do it myself. So really, I'd like the government to not give them anything at all.

Yeah, but like it or not, most people believe it is up to the government to DO SOEMTHIN BOUT IT!!!!! about every single problem. Even if that problem is something like too many people being big fucking fat asses. So the least we can do is treat people who want to live on the taxpayer's dime like the wards of the state that they are. It is at least a more equitable and logical arrangement than proclaiming sovereignty over your body while insisting that other people have a moral obligation to pay for its upkeep.

Well if bars can be reprimanded for giving out drinks to someone whose had too much the same should be said to buffets and fast food places. If the person has already eaten over the recommended calorie intake for the day they should stop them from receiving any more for that day.

Oh, I know, and it's irritating. I'm not against the idea, as long as it's not spending yet more money. That's my ideal solution though; to give them nothing. But until then, I see no problem with making them have to do something like this to actually get the money. Shame neither is likely to happen anytime soon.

Let them be fat if they want to - the average man doesn't have enough time to go to some camp to lose weight - too much work to do. It's a shame that offices generally lead to being overweight, but that's how society has developed, and we can't change that without completely changing the way we work and live.

Yes. There is just no need for it, it's only the addiction that keeps people smoking.
