Forums - Microsoft Discussion - MS: Xbox360 best selling console WW in 2011

Hyruken said:
Personally i think saying there are 1.6m on shelves is probably asking a lot. Especially when you consider that would be nearly double last years numbers.

Also not sure if it has been mentioned but according to IGN http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/121/1216177p1.html
Microsoft told them to clarify

"Xbox 360 has sold more than 66 million consoles" and that "Kinect has sold more than 18 million sensors around the world."

So i think it is most likely under-tracked.

If SOLD... IMPRESSIVE!

360 outsold PS3 in its most aggressive year?

360 widening the gap as opposed to millions of gamers thinking this was the year PS3 would take 2nd?

Ill hold my breath, as it isnt 100% confirmation....but one cant help but smile :)

Well, this was arguable the X360's most argressive year also. And I'd also say 2009 showed Sony much more aggressive than 2011.

That second sentence is false and you know it. I'm sure only the most ridiculous fanboys (maybe one or two people) claimed the PS3 to take 2nd place last.

360 is selling on 2008 prices. They could easily drop the price but choose to ride their momentum and rake in extra $$. 360 also had Gears, Forza, and Halo CEA as their main headliners. PS3 had far more at their disposal. 360 was aggressive, but there was room to do better. 2009 for PS3 was aggressive but this year had a price cut and a seemingly never ending wave of super duper awesome exclusives!!!!

The second sentence is true and we all know it. I venture outside vgchartz forums where people really speak their mind without fear of moderation. It is there where you see peoples true colours. I myself feared this to be the case in 2011. Luckily Kinect kicked in and saved 360s ass :P

2011 had more exclusives than 2009, sure, but that wasn't because of Sony's aggression. Games like LBP2 & Socom 4 happened to be delayed from 2010. That means Sony planned KZ3, Motorstorm 3, inFamous 2, Ratchet & Clank, R3, and UC3. While 2009 had KZ2, InFamous, Demon's Souls, UC2, & R&C. That means Sony planned what for 2011...what? two extra games: Motorstorm & Resistance. Now compare that to what they did in 2009. Not only did Sony release a new modeled system, but they also dropped the price 100$ when they were already losing money on each console sold. That's much more aggressive than dropping the price 50$ when you're already making money on each console.

I stopped reading when you admitted to posting information you received from an external, un-moderated forum. You're really making it hard for me to take you seriously. What forum are you talking about? N4G, Youtube?

i think anything over around 66.3M is undertracked here with VGC sold numbers, this late into a gen shipped to sold ratios should be higher than before, i believe these numbers are sold to retailers and as we know retailers dont sell every console they use some for in store displays ect. with a console getting a remodel then the store display has to be changes adding to the ratio. Its even seen with older high selling consoles like ps1 and 2 ds and psp the higher the the total sales are then the higher the ratio could be. I believe ioi himself addressed this issue with a similar theory as the one i stated 2 years ago involving shipped vs sold and ps2 LT sales i think he said there where some other places where consoles go when counted as shipped besides store displays have to find the post though.

regardless i believe whatever the outcome MS won, i know i was the original predictor for it to be the other way around but that was made in late 2010 when ps3 was taken a beating from wii and 360 so i decided i would get hits making it, i believed in it (ps3>all 2011) till about june-july of this year when X-box growths in NPD wouldnt stop.

the number 66m or over 66 million is not sold to consumers neither is the recent 3.9m for Dec. buy sony sold to customers is rarely ever released on the net when the source is the actually company, older members of this site should know this by now

Your response was accurate but still doesn't explain MS holding back this year when they could have easily dropped the price themselves. Maybe release another exclusive or two, since 2010 had way more 360 specific titles then this year.

Youtube. A forum beyond the scope of anything regulated. Not for the faint of heart im sure goes without saying. Im sorry if me taking in the thoughts and opinions of others from outside this website is taking a toll on you taking me seriously. I wasn't aware we have to turn a blind eye to everything else outside this bubble of vgchartz. apologies.

The 360 never sold because of legitimate library, it sold to casuals and its still holding on. Kinect is selling Faster than the 360 did itself. This should tell you something.

Actually kinect shipped/sold 5m~ in Q4, vs 8.4m+ 360's. If 3m of those kinects are new users with the other 2 current core 360 owners. Then that suggests much less than half of 360 purchasers are casuals this holiday.

Sony was unrivaled by Microsoft until Q3 and Q4. Part of that was gears and a large percentage were casuals.

In the end its down to Halo alone this year (if you havent already played the Witcher 2 on PC). Kinect will still be going strong. No one has ever doubted Kinects ability to sell.

No offense, but legitimate library? Are you serious? I hate the kinect don't get me wrong, but how isn't it ligitimate library?

Kinect tech is more ambitious than its library. You will see when it hits PC and the business world gets ahold of it. Secondly the major game everyone cares to buy on it is the Just Dance franchise. If a game isnt bundled with it, that is the game everyone is expecting to be the seller.

The Sony numbers this time is "*2 Number of retail sales to customers is estimated by SCEI."

Retail to customers = SOLD.

And the period is: "*1 From November 21, 2011 to January 5, 2012 for Japan and Asia, from November 21 to December 31, 2011 for North America, and from November 18 to December 31, 2011 for Europe / PAL territories."

Everyone, and I mean everyone knows that 2011 was Sony's most aggressive year. That is undisputable. Everyone knows that it was MS's least aggressive year, that is also undisputable. Microsoft released virtually nothing and Sony released countless top titles. I'm generally a MS fan and I'll happily admit that what MS released was crumbs in comparison to a sunday dinner from Sony. Please don't continue your line of argument unless you can back it up with something a bit more substantial than a strangely worded paragraph of fluff.

thats good that your spirits are up, dont get me wrong i as much as you would like to see PS3>360 this year but, i have a belief system i dont really take those words or others statements on the internet or by the people themselves to seriously thats how i role

i think you posted in another thread that in 09 they sold about the same as this year for Dec. but it was revealed that they shipped 6.5M for Oct-Dec of 09 so i dont see much difference for this year 6.5-7.5M shipped meaning even if my statement is false the bottom line is for all these threads and the main purpose of this site at the very most they would just tie the 360
