Forums - Sony Discussion - People have who PS3's but that don't Fold At Home / Poll

I see through the stats on stanfords folding page that about 33,535 ps3s are being used to contribute to the project. Now I know there are almost 9 million ps3s out there. What i'm wondering is why everyone isn't folding at home? Especially in winter! Is it that you guys like cancer, alzheimers, etc and don't want a cure for these wonderful diseases? You don't have wifi? You can't fold for religious reasons? Please enlighten me!

How about not wanting to waste electricity, especially as the prices are going up? Not wanting to shorten the life of my PS3 by leaving it on unnecessarily? Wanting to minimise my carbon footprint by wasting electricity?

There's 3 reasons for starters.

Maybe they want to use SETI@Home instead. Also, most people are probably unaware they can use folding@home, or even what it is.

my wi-fi is temporarily gone

doesn't it get really dusty when "folding" too [i don't have a PS3 btw, just interested]

It's vain but I don't want to break my PS3. I don't remember where I heard it, but I heard it can overheat your PS3 and the continued use makes for a lot of dust.

I don't feel inclined to leave my PS3 on all the time.

A cure for cancer? Great idea. My PS3 the most efficient way to get one? Doubtful.

Damn, now I feel bad LOL were sitting at 68 units and counting :P, when were not playing games, or watching blu-rays, or usings youtube. We have that biznatch folding up a storm :D it's a portable space heater I tell ya!!!

That'd be my reason for the most part.
