Isn't it going to be released in US for 249.99, and 299.99 for the 3g. The strong Yen must be a problem perhaps.

No its still announced and priced at 249.99 for the Wifi and 349.99 for the 3G version in NA.

Not even sure if the Japanese price cut is a official one or one that the stores made.

No, Sony confirmed the prices at e3, 249 for wi-fi version and 299 for 3g version. The 349 package of which you speak is a bundle which includes the 3g Vita, a game, a memory card and a case.

Anybody know how much Vita's are shipped so far? Because as far as i know the first shipment was only something like 450k and it managed to sell almost 400k in the first two weeks.

First Shipment was 500k, that is all we know.

Hmm guess it could have been mostly 3G models remain on the shelve then, it would explain the price cut on that model. However if that 500k was the only shipment last year, Vita selling about 450k really is as bad as most site try to make us believe(though they did the same with 3DS..). Software sales are dissapointing though again same with the 3DS, and the Vita doesn't really have any major titles right know(Uncharted is a big franchise but not that popular in Japan).

That's not really the way it works. You're supposed to sell out of, or nearly sell out of, your first shipment in launch weekend. Sony had multiple shipments prepared for post-launch I'm sure, which retailers obviously won't be ordering if they aren't selling well, and that means a huge hit on Sony finanically. Now, two and a half weeks after launch, the system still has yet to sell 500K, and won't have sold 500K by the end of this week either (it sold 42K last week, bringing the total to 439K lifetime).

Not saying the Vita is going to be a flop (way too early for that; look at the 3DS), but its Japanese launch has certainly been a flop.

The psp is out selling the PSVita in Japan...its just a sad situation for sony.

The fact Sony didnt kill the PSP selling the Vita at almost the same price its not a bad situation for them.

I've noticed "First Edition Bundle" I'm guessing that means they plan to make future versions like the 1000,2000,3000 series PSP?

That is what I am thinking which is why I will probably wait for the "Slim" version.

I use the hell out of my 2K and I do not really want to buy 2 of the same machine again (I had a 1K).

That is certainly wrong. The Vita has simple shipment constraints due to maxed-out oled manufacturing capacities. Sony would never have missed XMas seasons both in NA and Europe if the manufacturing capacities had existed.

I said the NGP was going to tank when it was announced. By the time they had dubbed it "Vita", the situation had grown even more dire. The handheld market just isn't what it used to be; the 3DS proved that with its launch and subsequent price drop. There is too much market clutter from well-rounded multi-touch convergence devices for a $250 handheld gaming device with $40 games to survive in the long run. If Nintendo struggles out of the gate, it pretty much means disaster for anyone else in the market. Why on earth would I buy a Vita when I can get a Kindle Fire for $50 less or a Xoom for about $150 more? Why on earth would I want a mobile gaming device in the first place? I carry a $200 (subsidized) phone with me everywhere. I'm not saying all handhelds are going to die. But handhelds like the Vita, well, they're going to die. There is no place in the market for a device that costs that much to buy and use when the market has been saturated with cross-over devices for the past five years. Gaming-specific handhelds have to bring something unique to the table or people will be plenty happy to continue using their iOS and Android devices to play games on the go.

The thing is that Sony should have seen this coming a mile away. They blundered through the PSP generation and seem to have learned nothing. They have their hand in almost every aspect of consumer electronics. Their complete indifference to market trends shows just how badly run the company continues to be. I could see the writing on the wall. My friends could see the writing on the wall. Why couldn't Sony?

If a handheld like Vita can't make it in Japan (and it looks like it can't without additional subsidization from Sony and the last thing they need is to sell another device at a loss), it's going to utterly flop in the west.

Did Sony stop manufacturing the Vita the day it launched? If not, why wouldn't they have follow-up shipments ready almost immediately after launch?

Early in launch cycles, it's typical for a manufacturer to use 1-2 day air freight to a destination country to continue feeding consumer demand for the brand-new device.

Of course, this is assuming that demand for the device far outstrips supply, which is almost always the case with a popular launch item. Other devices that have seen this used extensively following launch weeks: PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, iPad, iPad 2, iPhone, continue ad nauseum. It's a really bad sign that Japan seems pretty indifferent toward the Vita.

There is no big demand for the PSVita right now, and they have plenty on the shelves, there is no demand for a big supply of PSVita shipment for customers. It should be interesting to see how it goes in other parts of the world when its release.....I have not seen commercials for it yet.
