Forums - Gaming Discussion - Japanese Stores Cut PSVita Price By 20 Percent

Tagged games:

It seems that some Japanese stores are no longer believing in Sony.
They have cut the price of the more expensive version of the
PSVita by as much as 20 percent.

On its second week the PSVita sold only 72,479, while the 3DS sold an incredible 482,200 during
the same time period, Which is even more than all systems that were sold combined.

The 3G version was overpriced compared to the Wifi version. Hopefully, this becomes a full price cut supported by Sony - should help to drive sales of the premium version.

Judging from the lack of a price cut for the cheap version, I don't think we should read to much into this - quotes such as "It seems that some Japanese stores are no longer believing in Sony." Are just sensationalist crap.

Isn't it going to be released in US for 249.99, and 299.99 for the 3g. The strong Yen must be a problem perhaps.

where is the third week sales of PSV

No its still announced and priced at 249.99 for the Wifi and 349.99 for the 3G version in NA.

Not even sure if the Japanese price cut is a official one or one that the stores made.

Both Best Buy and Gamestop have the barebones 3G model for pre-order at $299.99 on their sites. Best Buy has a first edition bundle for $349.99, which is the 3G model, plus a case for the Vita, a game and a 4GB memory card (Gamestop has it, too).

The psp is out selling the PSVita in Japan...its just a sad situation for sony.

Anybody know how much Vita's are shipped so far? Because as far as i know the first shipment was only something like 450k and it managed to sell almost 400k in the first two weeks.

Hmm guess it could have been mostly 3G models remain on the shelve then, it would explain the price cut on that model. However if that 500k was the only shipment last year, Vita selling about 450k really is as bad as most site try to make us believe(though they did the same with 3DS..). Software sales are dissapointing though again same with the 3DS, and the Vita doesn't really have any major titles right know(Uncharted is a big franchise but not that popular in Japan).

people just dont want to pay monthly fees to game

Hey, just ask your average PS3 gamer for proof :P
