Forums - Nintendo Discussion - EGM: Wii is a 1/10 console in 2011 and I agree

Tagged games:

3DS was released this year and it seems like it is the only console for Nintendo. Yes, yes, it's a new system, it's the future and all that. But Nintendo let it down a big brand this generation: Wii.

EGM has declared 2011 one of the worst year’s ever for the console. The magazine believed that Skyward Sword wasn’t enough repair the damage done to the Wii last year and gave it a 1/10 for its system rating.

In its Holiday Gift Guide feature, EGM wrote:

“Sure, we know the Wii U’s on its way next year…but that doesn’t mean the Wii had to be DOA this year. Nintendo’s absolutely complicit in this live burial – as the Operation Rainfall campaign has continually pointed out on Twitter, Facebook, and message boards for months. NOA had three excellent RPGs primed for release – Xenoblade Chronicles, Pandora’s Tower, and The Last Story – but didn’t bother to bring them Stateside in 2011, though Xenoblade’s finally coming next year. And it’s not like Nintendo’s a niche developer like Atlus or NIS America who can’t afford to splurge on a localization budget. Sorry, Nintendo – even an end-of-year gem like Skyward Sword can’t salvage the damage you did to the Wii brand this year.”

Nothing we didn't already know.

Wii won this gen. Theres no reason to pump out more games

___________

Pretend Exclusive: A 3rd party multiplat, that releases for multiple consoles in the same window, in which all press showings and marketing are catered to only one console. Exclusive console bundles, being the lead platform, as well as timed exclusive/exclusive  betas and game content also strengthen the claim. The final effect is that the uninformed gamer will be convinced that the version primarily advertised is the only and/or best place to experience the game.

X1: Titanfall, COD: AW.    PS4: Watch Dogs, Destiny

Xbox E3 Exclusives: Halo MCC, Crackdown 3, Phantom Dust, Scalebound, Dance Central Spotlight

I agree too, even though it pains me much to do so. Kirby was there and some smaller titles throughout the year, but that was it. Its sad that this year will be bigger than 2011. Maybe.

@spurgeonryan

Exactly. It pains me too, but EGM is right. Skyward Sword is maybe my favorite Zelda, but aside from this and a couple of games Nintendo didn't release anything last year compared with 2010. They wanted to push 3DS, but they must have for Wii U a lot of games with a decent release schedule.

True, sadly enough. It was not merely the lack of original games but the lack of effort in other spheres as well, but it is clear Nintendo left Wii to die starting this year.

At the end of the day it is a matter of development resources, however. If resources had been allotted to making more Wii games this year, 3DS might still be in its horrifying rut, and yes, Wii U is out there.

Part of the blame of course goes to 3rd parties who had abandoned the platform long before this year, but nobody likes to blame them when there's Nintendo to blame

New Smash, New Mains

Main vetting is a more laborious process than i thought.

Well, at least Ubisoft is still on Wii with Just Dance 3 and the spin-offs. Maybe their HD games are still not enough profitable.

I dont really get it sony and microsoft consoles are fueled by third party if the 360 got as many good 3rd party games as the wii in 2011 it would be in the same boat. Nintendo is partially to blame but they cant force other developrs to make games for the wii especialy when their focusing on the wiiu and 3ds.

I am not a picky Nintendo fan, but even I need more games than they gave out this year.
