Lost its prestige? End of being a megafranchise? Gain back luster? Since Halo 3, Halo Wars is the best selling console RTS of all time. ODST......an expansion, outsold Uncharted 2 the same year. Halo Reach improved upon Halo 3 in almost every way (and has the sales to back it up). Halo Anniversary is the fastest selling remake of all time. The only thing that suffered since Halo 3 was a lack of Master Chief. This will be remedied in Halo 4. |
Okay lets see with halo 1, halo 2, and halo 3. Nearly every single critic unanioumously gave the game near perfect scores. Over 30% of the console's install base would buy the game DAY 1. It was the biggest game in America as long as a GTA didn't come out in the same year.
Halo Reach while obviously still one of the best selling games ever, had a pathetic attach ratio compared to halo, halo 2, halo 3. It didn't even manage to have a bigger opening week than halo 3 with a userbase 4 times as big. Yes it was adjusted down to below halo 3 week 1 if you check the charts. According to npd, halo 3 is tracking way ahead of halo reach, so it is only keeping up due to heavier bundling than halo 3. Yearly CoD sequels have started outselling halo games on both platforms consistantly. Many franchises are growing but halo has remained stagnated.
Halo sales are obviously very impressive but compared to what it once was, they are dissappointing. Xbox has grown as a brand massively after halo 3, but halo hasn't. Yes even with the loss of prestige it is still bigger than nearly everything else, but its undeniable that it could have been a lot bigger.
