I just got a new roommate who owns an Xbox 360 and was shocked and surprised to find out he owned no shooters: no Halo, no Gears, no Bioshock, no COD4 and so on.  Now, normally the first thing i would think is that a person who doesnt own even one of these fantastic shooters for the X360 was just simply not video game savvy (and was perhaps given it as a gift or bought it just for Madden), but the thing is is that his collection can still be considered on the cutting edge and inlcudes some big critical hits.  He has the Elite with a wifi adapter and HDDVD drive, Assassins' Creed, Forza Motorsport II, GH II and III, and last but not least the complete Rockband set-up.

Now, my question to other X360 owners out there is, do any of you have similar gaming tastes?  Is there anybody else out there who doesnt even own one shooter for the system?  I pretty much assumed that most 360 owners eat up this kind of stuff (eg Halo 3s attach rate), but am welcome to be proved wrong.  If I had to venture a guess, I'd still assume that my roommate is still mostly an anomoly in America, but that some European 360 owners may be closer to his tastes.  What do you all think?

Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Halo 3 aside,i don't own any shooter for the 360(or PS3).
Am i an anomaly?
Hopefully!

Off topic: A roommate? Not a flatmate but an actual roommate?! Is that common in the US? I've never heard of it in the UK.

it depend ..
I don't like CoD ..
and I love halo .. Maybe because of Xbox Live ..
And I love Gears of war and Mass Effect
I love action game more than FPS

Well no, I don't actually physically share a room with him. Housemate would be the most accurate; I definitely don't think anyone would ever call my place in DC a "flat."

Roommate is just the US term for flatmate. They're the same.

On topic, I definitely do not qualify for this anomaly. I play a lot of shooters, though it could be said that I just play a lot of games, period.

I do have a friend who wants to buy a 360 solely for GHIII. He isn't savvy about video games in the least (he recently bought a $400 blue ray player, he didn't get a PS3 because who needs it, he'll get a 360 for GHIII, so yeah). I think the desire to have a 360 for a single game is simply because he wants whatever he thinks is the most powerful even if he never uses it. I imagine in 15-20 years he'll have some Porche that can go 180mph even though he never takes it above 70.  I don't know if he really qualifies as the kind of anomaly you're referring to since he struggles playing anything but Wii Sports and GHIII and so doesn't.

There are tons of X360 owners that own X360s not for shooters.

My girlfriend's niece bought a X360 souly for Eternal Sonata.

As for myself, for shooters, I have COD2 and Condemned - both launch games. The rest is made up of RPGs, Football games, and a few others.

As for games I've beaten - I've beaten tons.

And I have friends that bought their X360s for Skate, Rockband, Oblivion, and tons of other non-FPS games.

Remember the fact that quite a few casual games have done remarkably well:

Guitar Hero 2 - 1.2m
Guitar Hero 3 - 1.3m
Lego Star Wars 2 - 500k
Lego Star Wars LCS - 250k
POTC - 300k
Scene It: LCA - 250k
Viva Pinata: 400k

And so on, those are just NA sales. The X360 has a good non-shooter userbase. It's just not as big as the Wii yet. But I'd say it's bigger in the US than the PS3 by a large margin.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
