You don't have to limit the nominees for overall goty by 5 , make them 10 like Gamespot or even 15 , it shouldn't be too hard to estimate the least deserving from each platform , or just list every platform's nominees all together, but that would make the list too long

That's a great system btw, I think it's much better than the current one

The issue I see with that idea is that if you just use as many nominees as you have nominees for the console specific goty awards all added together then the prestige of just being a nominee loses some of its meaning.  Mostly sites do goty awards to get their opinions out there, but it's also for hits, and hits are helped when publishers link to your award.  They're less likely to do so if they're one of 15 nominees for an award instead of one of 5.

even just taking out the publisher prestige side of things, I don't like having a huge nominee list because I personally don't like dilluting the meaning of being a nominee.  I want it to mean something when I tell some company they were nominated for an award, and I'll feel less like it matters if we have a huge list of nominees.

but Kirby came out last year and Zelda...was great I agree, but Rayman had a certain something that made it stand out.

They all came out last year. Yeah I'm being facetious.

I can't wait to do it next year, we have a lot of ideas floating around to streamline the process, eliminate redundancy, and make it a lot more fun for everyone involved. I'm still personally unsure what we're going to end up going with but I think we have some great ideas and I can't wait to share them.

I loved Bulletstorm the most of all the FPS games that came out this year, but I'm astonished it won FPS of the year. I'm also surprised Uncharted 3 won out over Gears 3 as TPS of the year, especially when I thought gears was better, and our own site's review scores reflect that (Keep in mind, the GotY winners are decided by vote, not by one individual so review scores don't factor in as much as you'd think, hence Portal winning a bunch and getting a lot of runner-up awards despite having a

That was supposed to be a 'less than 9' score.

and yeah, I think the entire team agrees that its score is kind of a travesty.  I spent over 20 hours on it before calling it (did the campaign which took me 8, did the co op which took me another 8, and I returned to it a few times to see how fast I could beat it.)

89 for the most fun, most clever, best written game of the year?  not happening.

Yes that's true , I think a list of 10 is the most suitable for both sides, or you could also stick to a range not to a specific number of nominees , meaning the you could end up with anything between 5 and 15, depends on the amount of high quality games released that year, mostly you'd end up with 5 to 8 nominees I believe, having anything more would be like saying " it was one hell of a year for gaming ".

The Witcher 2 should be tied for best WRPG of the year

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

I'm glad you guys are doing this but the articles don't get many hits and it's clear that the community doesn't appreciate your hard work.

I would have liked to see dead space 2 win best tps because uncharted's tps mechanics are still lacking. I would have also liked dirt 3 to win best racer but I just prefer that type of racing game. Mostly good choices, imo. The vgchartz staff really does love Rayman Origins though. While I believe the game is a blast to play coop, it loses some of its charm when you don't have a buddy playing with you.

I'm somewhat suprised at all the hate bulletstorm got for winning best shooter though. I don't even own the game but I enjoyed playing the demo more so than playing killzone 3 which I actually bought, and the 1 hour of fun was more than I would have had will call of duty. There wasn't any clearly amazing fps game this year. Everything got 80s metacritics and nothing got great word of mouth, yet people are acting like dragon age II was given rpg of the year which was a genre that actually had a bunch of critically acclaimed games come out this year.

I am guessing skyrim is the GOTY.....let's see if I am right...

It is definitely the big winner of the year.

without counting the readers' awards :

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -  97  Gotys so far

Portal 2 - 36

Batman: Arkham City - 23

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - 11

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - 9

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - 3

Gears of War 3 - 4

L.A. Noire - 3

Battlefield 3  - 2

Dark Souls - 3

.... I think that I'm gonna give it a try soon , after they release the patch

List needed a little updating.

The fact there are so many GOTY recipients this year truly meant it was a bumper year for videogames. Also I'm surprised at AC: Revelations winning biggest disappointment over the likes of Rage, Brink, or Duke Nukem Forever that was anticipated for a decade. It's like getting disappointed over a yearly Fifa instalment.
