Even if people are dumb enough to believe he's racist, this wouldn't change their minds.

Granted that they are too dumb to even change their mind or admit they are wrong.  The blame game is usually suffice for these people.

Exactly. They'll defend their own idiocy to the grave.

The worst the media has on this guy are these newsletters from decades ago which he didn't even write. And the media are really trying hard.

It's a shame the media don't try as hard with all the candidates.

They weren't actually ads

they were created by ron paul supporters

Well, a Super PAC. While technically just supporters, it's a lot more organized.

everyone is racist in someway, or discriminate somehow... some more than others.

I mean, though I like ron paul. I'd assume his campaign is doing this to get votes from the "black population."

Same reason why obama sent a letter congratulating the first gay couple in new york.

Maybe that's how they really feel. But, they're all playing politics.
People say things, to get the reaction they want out of people. Who knows how someone really feels.

Anyways, being slightly racist or not, is not relevant to fixing this country's current problems.

This advert wasn't put out by Ron Paul, but by a supporting Super PAC. For the most part, the Paul campaign has tried to focus as much as possible on policy and not on personality throughout, even when the personality would have won him more votes

(example being the recent ...ABC? debate (not sure) when asked about faithful relationships, Paul could have used this as an opportunity to sell him self on his incredibly successful family (and attack the likes of Gingrich), but instead twisted the question around to being faithful to the consitution).

Agreed, everyone is a little racist although some confuse racism with a preference for your own image, something people simply can't control.  I can guarantee right now though out of all of the republican candidates in the race RP is the least racist of the bunch, do you really see mittens hanging out with anybody that isn't straight milk toast, or Santorum for that matter, you know he crosses to the other side of the street when some brothers are walking his way.

I'm bummed RP didn't take Iowa but at least the message is getting out.  There are republicans who don't like the increased spending and growth of government, and we don't like these crazy wars in the Middle East.  That message needs to be heard by the party because until the Neo-cons accept it they won't be in control of the white house for a long time.

Actually, people can't control either to a full degree.  Though prefrence for your own image is actually a much weaker force.

I'd suggest taking this test. https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/demo/

Racism is ingrained in culture, and therefore implanted in peoples heads before they know it, and even the most progressive anti-racist upbringing won't fully prevent it.  What generally is ignored however, is that said racism is often always targeted at the same group, assuming the culture is mostly the same.

A good read on this is a chapter in Malcolm Gladwells "Blink."  It does a good job talking about "unconsious racism".

To in general bring up some points though expierments though... White buisness owners are, when all things are fairly even, more likely to hire a white person, what they don't tell you is.... so are black owners.

Even being a member of said race does not protect you from being unconsiously racist towards that same race.  When they do unconsious tests, they tend to find that minorites are more likely to get assigned negative words in a "quick pick" test then white people, even when the respondents identify as minorities. (the above test for one)

It's pretty hilarious how hawking virulently racist newsletters is A-OK if you're internet popular. And if you're not internet popular, then being a white conservative means you're presumed racist until it can be proven otherwise (which, of course, it can't be).

It's no different then the rampantly sexism employed against the people Julian Assange raped, and against Hilarly Clinton by various people backing Barak Obama.  That was all tolerated as well.

In general, all you need to do to get a pass is to NOT be a conservative.

I think popularity trumps whether or not someone is a conservative. Although it's true that conservatives tend not to be popular on the interwebs, Paul is in some regards the most conservative candidate. And not just in that oh-so-hip "fiscally conservative/socially liberal" way, at least if you believe the people who've worked for him who say he absolutely hates gays (after seeing Bruno, I can believe it). But he's "cool" for whatever reason, so who gives a shit about his dealings with racists? Especially when Rick Santorum wears a sweater vest and is so NOT cool!

The dynamic was similar with Obama and Clinton. I don't know that Clintons are more conservative than Obama. I'd say they're merely more politically pragmatic. All that mattered was that Obama was a fucking dreamboat, and Hillary was old news compared to that hot shit. So when it came out that Obama had spent 20 years listening to a horrendous racist like Jeremiah Wright, everyone ultimately decided it didn't matter because Obama was just sooooooooo kewl. Then when Obama's surrogates tarred Hillary, Geraldine Ferraro, and even the former "first black president" Bill as racists, it actually kind of stuck. Thus proving yet again that most people are unprincipled dickholes, and if they hate someone, that person can do no right, and if they love someone, that person can do no wrong in their eyes.
